Need some help

I've got a 5yr old cat/plott that I've had for about a month.  She is a dang good dog and we've been on hogs every weekend since I've had her( even though we got outrun every time but one).  Anyway,  the last hog we got on I shot and found out she is super gun shy.  I took her out this morning and she didn't want to leave the truck.  I had to put her on a lead and walk her away from the truck.  After I did that she got out and hunted good but when she was around me she seemed like she was just expecting me to shoot.  I really don't want to get rid of her because she is a good dog and she's good for my pups.  Is there something I can do to try and work with her or should I  sale her to someone that doesn't shoot over there dogs. I got a catch dog yesterday but he's only 9 weeks old so its gonna be a while until he's ready LOL. Any advice will be appreciated.

I've never been able to get one over being gun shy, especially one as old as she is.

Get you a good bulldog and leave the gun at home..

Lol I hear ya.  I bought a pup yesterday that's gonna be a good catch dog but he's still a pup.  Plus I want dogs in my pack that could go either way.  The first time I ever hunted hogs with dogs we shot three hogs before we got to the bay and let the catch dog go.  The guy I was hunting with dogs never thought twice about the gun shots.  Plus I hunt for the meat.  I don't kill em for nothing.  My family lives off of hog meat when the hunting is good.

Hard to get a dog over being gun shy.. How good are you with a bow?

Lol that's pretty good.  I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a bow.

Don't really want to, but I put her up for sale.  She's a good dog but I really want dogs that aren't gun shy.

You have to ease a dog into guns. Some dogs are fine but others get ruined with one shot. All dogs you plan to shoot around should be started with either a 22 or starter pistol if you do not have enough land to shoot. From a distance fire a shot and then go over and pet the dog. Do this once or twice a day for a few days then move a little closer to shoot. You are associating the bang with positive feelings. Have the dog with a non gunshy dog so they see the other dog if you can. But once the dog is gunshy it always will be as far as I know.

 Personally with all the gun dogs that I have been around and trained, when they are gun shy it is almost impossible to break them from it especially as old as yours is. She is gun shy for a reason, someone made her that way. Thats why you start shooting around them early in age. I perfer my hog dogs to be gun shy that way if they end up where they are not supposed to be and a farmer starts a shooting they tuck tail and get the heck out of dodge. Id keep her and get a good CD if she is a good dog, use a knife not a gun its more fun.

I hear ya and I appreciate the advice.  But I've got a catch dog now he's just a pup.  And I'm pretty sure he's gonna be a dang good one.  At the same time though I still prefer a dog that isn't gun shy.   I don't mind if a gun startles them but it bothers me if it changes the way they act around me.
