just wandering....USUALLY when yall go hunt, about how many dogs do yall usually have ON THE GROUND? I know for us it all depends just on how many people are going, but i just would like to see who has better luck with more or lesser dogs on the ground hunting?

2 finished dogs and a pup and sometimes 1 finished dog and a pup, however i usually rotate after every loop... EX. put two in the ground and they take off and hunt and make there round and as soon as they come in i grab them and put them up and move up little and dump fresh dogs or switch the pups.. I liked this method after hunting with Bryant it seems to make the dogs wanna stay out and hunt longer and harder, and if we get on one there not tired. Grin

Hunted last week with 3 on the ground, two that range out a bit, and one that stays pretty close. Then Sunday, we had 5 on the ground, two that range out, two close, and one young dog.  I guess it depends on how many people are with us, but my preference is to have 3-4 on the ground and at least two solid catch dogs.

yea i like yalls styles. i know a few people that hunt with like 8-12 dogs on the ground... most of the time they are in the way and if they catch a smaller hog around 100 lbs but the time you get to them there is nothing left to them. i usually run two dogs and they will both hunt and catch so that is my preference  Grin

Only when the terrain permits, you've got to be able to get to them quick when you hunt like that... I do like hunting that way when I can though, cuts down on the breaking crap Wink  Brings up a good question though, how long does one feel comfortable leaving a catch dog caught?...(new topic)..

Personally i like to get them off as soon as i can thats why i dont turn my catchdog loose until i can see the hog or i am very close but if it is a runner or one that has been running or keeps breaking i turn them loose as soon as i hear a good bay but i only turn loose my leggy bulldog on those occasions.
