I've wondered if they just had a firecracker in the pipe on the helmet or stuffed inside the melon, but it sure does appear that it was shot. Crazy none the less.

Im not calling this one BS, however being an avid long range shooter and an "amateur" gunsmith I know the concussion of a .50 BMG down range would have split his plastic bicycle helmet.. Now there are variants of the 50 round but all of them have more knock down power than a mag point blank even out to 1000 yards... So yeah the air moving off the round woulda moved the guys head...
