All my usual hunting buddies were too busy to go out this weekend so I decided to do something I've been wanting to do for a while which is run just MY dogs by themselves. I've only been hunting since summer of 2007 so I've always run my pack with another hunter's dogs. It was real cold out Sat. morning so we decided not to start hunting until 8 am. I took my 2 tag along friends, Skip, and my friend Jason who had been on 7 dry runs with me and never caught a hog before in his life. Within 45 mins, my #1 strike dog Marker, started barking and then I heard my other good dog Luke join in. Next thing I know they started hammering seriously on it and the 11 month old pup I brought got real interested and went to the bay too and even tried to get in and help catch.

My dogo, Jumbo, got there but the pig was backed up into some briars and for some reason he hestitated on catching it (that really pissed me off) and it broke the bay and kept running until they caught it again in the bottom of a nearby creek. I yelled at my newbie friend Jason to jump down there and stab it, but he totally wussed out and just froze, so I hopped down and stabbed it. My other buddy skip came down and helped me drag it out of the creek and field dress it. Looks like a good size boar I'm horrible at estimating the weight but I'd say definitely around 200#s. His cutters were short but sharp, damn boar somehow managed to cut ever single one of my dogs. It put a pretty good sized puncture wound in the dogos chin (which may be why he hesitated), put a 2 inch gash down Marker's belly, bit my other dog Luke in the back leg, and even hit the 11 mo. pup over the eye. All said and done though, the dogs are stapled up and fine now and I'm proud of my dogs and the meat they put on the table.
