Ride and talk and you can hear everything happening as it happens and we rode right up to the bay and then right up to the catch. Broke horses are highly recommended.  Grin

Sounds like a heck of a way to spend some time in the woods... Congrats fellas and Mandy.

I have a horse broke trash broke pit that I stole off some really nice okie. He was on this hunt, but I left him and my cur dog at the trailer in case we needed fresh dogs. When we bayed that group, I was kicking myself for leaving my collared up vested up ready to hunt catch dog at the truck.

Chris was able to lead goofy old tyson to one bay and then back to the truck on his horse. The grey horse I was on will let a dog ride his butt or be led off him. We have had up to a 70 lb dog riding the grey's rump. Of course, optimum for all involved is to have mike and his Honda available to haul the catch dogs and tied hogs.

Cheers

On horses and hogs... our horses think hogs are just part of life. Even my big time English show horse will walk right up to a hog with no problem in daylight or dark. I have a pet mule footed hog that the horses live with. She is super vocal and squeals, barks, chases things, and generally desensitizes the horses to hog presence. All you fellas who have issues with your horses spooking at hogs  may be training ahead if you invest in a pet hog.

Cheers

I haven't done it as much as I would like but since it is nice and dry around here an you don't have to worry about marring up to your arse everywhere.
Luckily, I think that will change after today. Grin  Nice hunt.

i  hear ya Mandy, i try to break em by ridin em up to around the hog pen but no matter how hard i try it seems out in tha woods they will bloww bout 10 ft sideways out from under me when they run a hog by em.which inturn leaves my my fat arse pullin up out of a crater that i just made. some of the time that is.
and i do like that big grey by the way.

I'm not much into horses but that would about make it all worth it.  I've always thought riding right up to a caught hog would be awesome.  It would be a very different experience.

Good pics
