So.  Had a litter out of my best gyp Shiner.   Asked the stud dog owner if he wanted pick of the litter and he said no, had too many dogs as was.... Well.... 3 mnths after the pups hit the ground he calls me up out of the blue and says "take pics of all the males so I can pick one out"....  Huh?  ... say what?  Huh?

By that time, obviously, I'd made some choices as to who was staying, who was goin'... out of ten, 8 were left, six were sure-e-nuff... 2 were for sho....

So I kept my pick as male at the house and carried him down the rest to pick out of... all solid dogs that none of which I was real keen on lettin' go of ....

He and another guy(who happened to have bred the grandmother to my dogs) ended up taking one male each.... which, although I REALLY wasn't wanting to part with either, I was still content they were going to people that would appreciate and hunt the dog to it's potential... And as most dog men do, the verbage was stated..."if I decide to get rid of the dog, you'll be the first to know"....

Here's where chit starts pissin' me off...  Even though I haven't been breeding dogs for 50 yrs, I still consider this "my" litter... I've invested an immeasurable amount of time into proving the momma dog.  Straight up fact there ain't too many gyps out there that have "earned" the right to be bred.  Wink  Shiner is one of them.

InAsMuch... when I give(note I said "give".... not sell) a cur pup to a man it's because I respect him.  Money has no bearing on my cur dogs... they, quite simply, mean too much to me.  If I offer you a dog, it is a compliment.   If you turn it down the first time, you most likely will not get a second chance.

So........ a few mnths later I call to see how the dog was turnin' out.... after a good bit of hemmin' and haw'n he finally came out and said, "somebody offered me enough money for the dog and I sold it."  .............. NOW.   That in itself pissed me off... but it gets better......

When I asked the man to, at the least, give me the contact info of the person who'd bought the dog, so as I could keep in touch with the animal.... he went and got all "wierd" on me.... "I'll let you know how he turns out" was his exact words.... Piss poor is what I say.  And THAT is what is bothering me.... this guy KNOWS how much I care about these dogs, but REFUSES to tell me who bought the dog.

All he gave up was that it was "someone down around Okeechobee"... but who really knows??

If whoever bought this dog is reading this, please call me, as I'd really like to keep track of this dog... a blue and tan bob tailed male dog that's comin' on 6mnths right now... and should be eatin' a hog's ass up by now.... sold to you by a man named Fred.   Noah Metzger 386 937 3381

Sorry to hear that. That is a bad deal. You are a real good guy to give him a pup after he turned you down. What he did sounds pretty shady to me.

All I care is that I know who has the dog... regardless if you think I'd want you to have it or not...  it's like one of my kids at this point... really bothering me not knowing who has it....

Noah that just stinks. Judging from the pics you put up last week, you are pretty ripped and I would hate to be in your bad graces. I know, you have a cool head, but still!

I would really have something to say to the fella who sold the dog you gave him. Shoot, even when we buy a dog, we offer the person we got it from if we ever need to send it packing. Pups or adult dogs. We have even gotten dogs as pups, raised them, and then given them back to the breeder if they wanted them back. I guess some people have a different set of values.

Cheers

I havnt been in your situation but Im currently in the other fellas situation with some pups I have now that were givin to me by some fellas that I have the utmost respect for and these pups will be with me and only me until a hog kills them or they are culled by me. Sorry about the whole deal Noah

It's a shame that we have to deal with people like this Fred fellow. I've been right where you are Noah, and it erks me to this day,....wasn't about a dog but a horse. I try to remember something I read awhile back....."He that angers you controls you". Fred knows he did you wrong and will have to live with it....it may not bother him all that much.....but the day is coming when he will have to answer for his actions to the Good Lord and I doubt that He will be as easy to deal with as you were. Be happy that you have some good pups to keep and try......I did say TRY to let this go just a little bit each day. Good luck Bud.

I always ask up front what the stud fee is and repeat it back. I have been taken advantage of for stud fee too. So unless you are a good friend I only take cash up front for stud fee and then give it back if there is a puppy deal for me. But I make sure all the details are worked out before hand. Then I hold them to it. Two puppy stud fee? Stud fee to someone else? All of it after the fact!

If I find out somebody went behind my back to get this dog knowing I wouldn't want them to have it.... well, you best pray I NEVER find out.

Here's a pic of him at a couple mnths, "Mako" is what I called him... I'll get a pic of his brother now to show you what he should be lookin' like presently...  Real distinct "blue" color to him, tan stockings, green eyes... he's a looker that's for sure... should be pretty easy to spot...

Hey Noah, i've figured out that 99.9% of folks do right and are good folks. Don't let the the rest of em ruin it for ya.sorry ya got shook down, i know the feeling, have two folks owing me almost 2k for dogs,,, but i did keep the papers,,, for wat good that does.
Other thing is, if folks are bold enough to come out with crap like that i guess ya gotta be bold enough to tell " heck no",,,
Like i say, i aint one to talk ,,, i always fall back into that trap thinking folks are always honest,, need to take my own advice,, good luck tracking em down, that's tough not knowing where yo pups are

Had about same thing happen to me owned a good gyp bred her to guys male that lives not far from me he has one of best cow dogs in my neck of the woods. He dont usually breed but my hunting buddy and him or good friends and they work cows together every now and then. Me and my hunting buddy took my gyp over there and put dogs together and stood around and talked while dogs did business I ask guy that owns male if he wanted a pup or two and he said no to many dogs now. Then he told me all he wanted was if they turned out tell everybody where they came from because he sells pups and if they didnt turn out get rid of them and tell no one sounded good to me to breed to such good dog.
Heres where my deal went south pups were six months old guy was up road from my house working cows so I thought I would take a couple up and show him thought he might want to see them when I got there he was total jerk said he should have got one then I told him what he told me he said I still should have got one he heard how good they were turning out. I told him you didnt want one then and aint getting one now then he road off on his horse. About two weeks later he talk to my hunting buddy which I had already told what happened and  he told him he was just having bad day. Still really ticked me off oh well. I would have given him half litter if he'd wanted them but not after six months because he heard how they was coming along.
Been member here few years just dont post much but read almost daily and this post hit close to home
If the guys male you used said he didnt want one and you kept them til three months would been hard for me give him one.

That ain't right, and it sucks you can't just take a man's word on a deal, and you wanna get everything in writing when its that important to you. I'll be sure to let you know if I come across that dog.

Good post and good advice. We share the same code it seems Ben.
I have been seeing bad deals like this go down since Jr. High school. Fortunatley, I have not been a part of one after all these years.
A mans integrity shouldn't have any price on it much less the price of a good pup.
My own failures as a breeder has given me the utmost respect for the successful breeders out there.
At the very least, he should have offered the pup back to you.
Log it in your lessons learned book and let it go.

Noah that sucks.  I hope you find him.  I've run across some sorry SOB's in this dog business and for the life of me I can't figure out why they are like that.  Its seems life would be a little easier for them if they were a little more open and honest.

Regardless, you can take comfort in the fact that if I ever find that dog it will be placed in my cleanest kennel and you will receive punctual weekly reports.  Wink

JDT, that is exactly what I've come to believe...

... and, I hate to say it, but I left ya two messages that I had a pup held for ya, but when I didn't hear from you I went ahead and thinned down!  If Shine survives this season, I plan on breeding her again and you're welcome to a pup!

Regardless, you can take comfort in the fact that if I ever find that dog it will be placed in my cleanest kennel and you will receive punctual weekly reports.  Wink

CullBuck, I could only hope he ended up in your yard... I could rest easy in that.
