Mr. Des reminded me of a particular Fresian I spent quite a few yrs with.  His name was Mick, a 4yo stallion import that had gone through some great trainers and hurt or scared them all... which is where I came in the picture Grin  Unfortunately for me at the time,  I had gained a reputation for getting along well with problem(dangerous would be a better description) stallions and people often brought me spoiled "man eaters" as I liked to call them.  Mick was a prime example of one of these studs that had learned to intimidate people to get out of having to work.  It took a while for him to come around(not to mention a couple "stern" conversations Wink), but once he did we were inseparable.  The owners tried to put him back with his show trainer, but the horse put him in the hospital a wk later Cheesy  Next thing I know, I'm in riding pants, an english saddle, and some goofy(gay) looking top hat :Smiley  Oh, well... money talks, right? Wink

Mick and I showed all over the country, did a calendar :Smiley, and countless exhibitions.   I often worked cattle with him and he was a heck of a rope horse, as you could imagine(he could rope an elephant Grin)   He eventually was retired to stud.

Prepping for another exhibition

Auditioning for a stallion demonstration at the Budweiser Grand Prix in Wellington

Warm ups

I'm sure I'll regret putting this one up... Grin... but this was an 8 stallion(together at the same time Shocked) international show done for some high rollers.  You can imagine the tension between 8 breeding studs who are used to getting their way Shocked  Don't ask why the owners insisted on the christmas ornaments... you know how rich old women love their bling Grin  Nice hat, huh? Cheesy

Hey, I happen to like guys on English horses! I don't think it's gay, I think it's hot! Although I have to say that Saddleseat appeals to me more, but I do respect Dressage competitors. I'm a rail junkie from way back  Cool

I've not been on a Fresian (or Fresian/Arab cross which is what I'd most likely run into in my own circles), but I can appreciate a good horse of any breed. I also can relate to the ones that get super attached to one person and hate other folks. Who knows why they are like that. I once got my hands on a "man eater" as well who had a similar issue as Mick. The difference was that my guy was older, and had colic issues to boot. It turned out that the poor guy had been afflicted with ulcers his whole life and was understandably cantankerous as a result. Once the ulcers were dealt with, I was able to get through to him like no one else had (they just never gave him a chance). I started standing the horse at stud, and would exhibition him at horse shows in Arabian Native Costume with junior riders in the irons. Once at a show, one of his previous trainers whom he had seriously injured came up to me expressly to ask how I managed to get him under control. I simply answered that Ansair was "just a really great horse". I truly think that was the case, he was just willing to work with me I guess. I miss him.

Sweet photos, you just came up three notches in my book!

Cheers

Guys riding english might not be gay, but they sure look gay! Shocked  Sorry Noah, it's true, but if the $$$ is good enough who cares what you look like. Heck, you gotta be pretty confident in yourself to have posted that last picture.

Des,
I hope we don't see any photos of you in tight pants riding half a saddle anytime soon Grin

Des,

I think there is a law against making tights in my size...and if there is not a law against it, there should be!

Thanks Des and C, I knew I could count on yall to run with a joke Grin   Des, Proud meadows sounds real familiar, don't they have Friesans?

Aladrot, when you said "sweet"....sweet as in swishy..or...nevermind Grin  I've always said, if it's a nice horse, I'll ride it.  Don't care what breed or if it even is a breed, a nice horse is a nice horse..... good memories, I've had the pleasure to ride some great ones Cheesy

I did a little team penning/sorting on him, but they're(Fresians in general) too heavy built to be nimble enough to stop a rank cow.  Sure spoils you riding a big, athletic horse though... makes a regular quarter horse feel like a pony Grin  Hard to tell with me on him, but that horse was 16'2 and 1500#'s+.  LOTS of power to work with Wink
