I have read about and hunted behind Campbell curs,  pit x bird dog, but what about AB X GSP ? Anybody hunting or using this cross for catch dogs? I would like to add a little more lung and speed to my catch dogs.  Just Rollin around ideas in my head.

Tom, a lot of people I know hunt with pit/English Pointers. I've been thinking about AB/EP cross. Add a little leg and bulk with the same drive and catching ability. I say try it but let me know when you do!  Grin

I am trying to get a young AB x EP from a friend right now.  These are bold and catchy and will probably end up being straight catch dogs.  I had a couple in the past and liked them alot.

so far i am pretty pleased with my rusty dog so far.. it seems he gets better and better and i guess i have had him 2-3 months now. I just got a gyp pup from ur buddy. I hope she will be a decent sized dog she is a week older than my cat pups and allot smaller than them Huh? Chuck said the brood gyp was pretty small but his dog buster is about as big as my cats. My Rusty dog is all legs and chest and can run for ever i think. Rusty is taller than most dogs i have hunted with and I dont know how common his size is.......

Seems like most AB crosses have problems with heat and unless it was a really well bred AB I would worry about hardness in the cross.

TNBilly  My plan was to cross AB with wire haired pointer. Then I decided to cross a GSP with Airedale keep females breed them to differnt ABs. Problem is it will take forever. So if you find GSP x AB cross I would also be interested.

well what got me to thinkin was, I found 2 young GSP's that are supposedly all catch. I have some good bred AB females, one that i really like, that i would like to make the cross with. Hardness, to hardness + speed, legs, and lungs. But someone said they had heat issues, I would think that with the cross that it help?  This is one reason I put it on here to get more input.

I hunt in Florida and I deal with heat alot.  The muscle bound bulldogs with light pigmented skin tend to have more trouble with heat.

Dark nose, short hair, less muscle, decent nose, driven and athletic is what I would look for in the bulldog.  The bird dog adds a little stamina and energy, without sacrificing nose.  Plenty of this cross will be medium to small dogs built and colored like a bird dog.  Drive will make up for size.

Do the breeding, if nothing in the litter has any lung, cross the best one to gsp again and see if a 1/4 slice of ab gives ya wat u lookin for.
