I was just given a big american bulldog.  He has a pretty big underbite.  It has probably been asked before but does anyone have any experience with a dog with an under bite and how does it catch?

Well assuming the dog will lock on he can hook in better with the underbite. The k9 tends to curve more and hook into the skin rather than bite. Hope that helps.

An underbite will give a dog more holding power because of the location of the bite in the game ( hog, cow or what ever). An underbite, you will have 4 different locations a tooth can anchor rather than 2 holes in a straight or sissor bite. I other words with an underbite there will be less tearout.
Underbite is preferred by most breeders.
If you Google, bulldog underbite you will find lots of information on why the underbite is preferred.

Well my bulldog catches well so dies her brother. Both have slight underbite. I don't show mine but have nothing against it. Agreed Lem is a salesman but I beg to differ with your opinion of Mr. Scott. Yeah I also agree that not all Bulldogs with an underbite are going to make good catchdogs but its hard to argue with leverage. A dog with a slight underbite has more leverage and can breath better when locked on.  I don't know how many Bulldogs you really own so I won't argue any further. In my opinion the underbite is good.
