all depends on the wound and the location on the dog

yeah like clay said it depends... but most of the time you need to wash it out daily with something like betadine or some other kind of disenfectant and then put a few staples in it and leave a hole were it can drain...

vet told me if there not gutted give them some penaciline hydro the cut doctor it and leave it alone. DO NOT STAPLE OR SOW IT. works fine for me the scars are a little worse but they seem to heal fast.

small cuts dont need staples, but long or wide cuts it helps allot, it keeps debris out of the wound and you can pull the skin back together so it will heal allot faster. Also if its an irregular cut with flaps of skin you will need to cut that off because it will die and dead skin wont heal back togther very fast. But small cuts I believe its best to leave them alone and let the dog lick it.

I have found if they are not that bad leave them alone. The dogs will keep it clean themselves. If it requires staples put the mininum you can get away with will leave ugly scar but it will heal fast.

vet told me to use the k.i.s.s. rule keep it simple stupid! ive heard from him and numerous other people if the dog can lick its own wound then leave it alone as long as the bleeding is under control. if the dog cannot lick its wound thoroughly clean it and apply "cut doctor" then staple it leavin a small hole at the bottom of the cut, barely big enough to stick ur pinky in......this is to let the fluids properly drain and prevent infections.

I dont know how many have tried Underwoods. If it is on an area they wont lick off or if you have an E collar you just spray it on and then dust it with baking powder. then you never wash it off you just spray over what's on there and dust it again. I do it twice a day and it will heal the worst cuts with almost no scarring. I have seen wounds on horses you could stick your head in healed with this stuff and now no scar. anyway its worth checking out. here is their link: http://www.underwoodhorsemedicine.com/

Do not peroxide moe than the first treatment, this will also kill fresh tissue growth. Hydro therapy 2 times a day will also keep the scaring down to a minimum and give antibiotics. These are general blanket statements to use on all wounds, then like said above some require further treatment such as staples or stitching and also mentioned be sure it can drain to preven abcesses

I never believe in any of the remedies till I see them work. but that underwoods is crazy good. and I like that you dont wash it every day.
