I have a 7 month old Female Gyp that has found pigs and has done a great jog during staged hunts in the past but she acts weird when she gets close. she will bay semi-hard face to face , but she will whine when she gets close to the pig. she mainly busts them out or just whines until the pig makes an aggresive move. I really dont want a dog that will just keep busting a hog over and over again. Its like she knows what scent to follow and what not too. but when she gets there she gets very passive. I can stake a pig a half a mile away wait a few hours and follow her loosely and actually see her run to a bush and just whine . What Am I doing Wrong? I have even thought about killing every pig that we do the Mock hunts with.  Has ne body had this happen or suggestions? Like I said she just turned 7 months and Iam just worried that she will always do this. do I need to run her with some gritty dogs? Everytime she finds a pig a staged hunt she bays real loose, but when I get the pig and leg  it she nips at his ears and legs. How many think that the solution is a gritty hunting buddy or just see what she does over the next year. I watch can her from a mountain we have and can see her follow every turn I made while dragging the pig and she makes them, and has been doing it for months. I am just confused what to do and I really dont want to ruin her by jacking up. Need some help from the Pros Smiley

I would say definitely put her with another dog. one like you want her to be. she will feed off the other dog and get more confident. try a small hog that she can handle easily. when you get there talk her up and get her all worked up. usually, you can get them worked up enough to go in. then just make a big ole fuss over her. Just have to build her confidence sounds like. I wish i had your problem...7 mo old pups finding hogs regularly, not a bad problem to have.

she is 5-0  pretty hard staged and have seen her bust other pigs out of the country while on horseback while just getting her in the woods.

I AM NOT A PRO .  but i have been around hunting and bay dogs most of my life .  in my opinion shes just a pup . even a year old dog is like a 7 year old kid . ill go out on a limb and say she will make a dog . run her with some ruff dogs and shell probably get ruffer , at the least from what i know about her from what you said she has potential to be a find dog . and mule man hit it on the head.

some folks have to wait till thier dogs are 1 1/2- 2 to find out what thier gonna be.   just give her lots of encouragement...    and   time
