Husband wakes me up this morning and tells me that he no longer wants to hog hunt and that he is selling all the dogs....I told him he had to keep our fully trained dogs and our gear because I knew him well enough to know that he is going to get back into it eventually....

well, just don't make a hasty decision. You are probably right, don't get rid of all the dogs and maybe keep 2 of your best. With 2 dogs you can catch hogs or at least you can tag along with someone now and then and it is great when you have 1 or 2 dogs in the race... :)But only you and your husband know what needs to be done and I wish you the best in making the right decisions...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

I know exactly how he feels, ive been kicking around the idea of getting rid of all the curs I have left, and keep just a couple plotts. Got the bear to run, but love hog hunting 10 times more. But having to drive atleast 5 hrs to hunt just aint fitting in the budget. Dont sell out completely, I have done it a couple times, and seems it gets harder everytime to get a decent pack going.

I've been beating that ?? Around all summer. The new baby and the wife not working we've been tight. I've let all my trainies go free to good hunting homes they need to be worked and I haven't had the time or money. I'm down to two best cur's and a CD pup. I say keep your best dogs. Cause like me when the weather cools. He'll want to run some dogs.

Im on somewhat of a budget being a student athlete. I got one good cur, one good cd, and one cd pup. The two grown ones are all I need to go catch a hog if I really want to go by myself, and it aint hard to find people to go with. Especially when you got a board like this to keep in touch with everyone. Dont sell out, just keep the necessities.
The thing with dogs is that they can always put food on the table if you really need them too. If times ever got really rough, the dogs will be one of the most valuable assets you can have besides good land.
