I recently started hunting again a lot by myself and I guess I forgot how different it is.  For me it's pretty nice because I find myself focusing more on the dogs than on talking and I'm noticing things I didn't notice before.  Even though it's nice, I have found myself in a hairy situation or two and would like to hear about some yall's experience hunting by yourself. I only hunt one to two dogs on the ground so it's easier for me when I actually catch a hog, not having to fight off dogs or what have you.  I think my biggest worry about hunting by myself especially during the summer is getting snake bit.  I should probably just go piss a big stump tail off and get bit intentionally and get it over with  Grin I'll probably pass on that one though

i used to hunt alot by myself but my RCD got killed on christmas eve and dont take my bulldog by myself bc he is a handful with two people! but when i do go alone now i just take my find dog and a pup im working with an my pistol, they will catch as long as it aint no monster. my dog that got killed he would catch a 200lb hog if he broke but if he ever stopped he wouldnt bark again would b all catch and i could just bump him on nose an he turn loose so it was much easier then

I primarily hunt by myself for various reasons, I hunt with a couple other guys sometimes but for years was just me... It's good to have help tho sometimes... I got a scar on my calf had 86 stitches woulda still happened if I had someone with me but was hell drivin a 5spd to the hospital without bleedin to death lol... Have sewed and stapled myself several times. All that in account I still enjoy huntin alone sometimes just how I like it... Mayb because nobody there to know the real story lmao j/k.  Wink

Hunted by myself once. Sportsman talked me into going so I'll load up and roll out with 1 finished dog and one I had just bought back from caddie Co hogdogger. Took a redbone that had never been in the woods and a CD that had never heard a bay. Plus my wife and kids.  Get to the meeting spot and let dogs out to poop and pee. Well sportsman calls and cancels. Check Garmin and my finished dog and the one I bought back r 4 or 5 hundred yrds out. Throw the two know nothing's in the pickup and get closer but They were 700 and bayed. Well my wife wouldn't leave our 3 yr old and wouldn't take him so its just me. ( with only two curs that I know r good and experienced)  walk the redbone out and pit out to 50 Ted's from the pig. Redbone went in and bayed. Pit never moved. So I threw him on the pig. 250 lb boar. I'm 5'7" 150 lbs. Got lucky ill say. No cuts but bruised up curs.

This started out as a group hunt but turned into a solo hunt pretty quickly.

I hunt by myself a lot.  Not really a preference but that's just how it turns out.  Plus its like grocery shopping.  I prefer a big backstrap over a good set of cutters.  The only time I got in a bind was when my dogs got on a boar one night in a creek bed. After they caught I jumped in and it was further down than I thought and I sprained my knee real bad.  I couldn't get up to stab it but that's why I always carry a pistol as back up and got a clean shot when my dogs weren't in the way.  It was a long walk back to the truck.

I wanna hear the story behind the 86 stitches...that's alot meat to stitch together so I know when u opened the door, blood had to be pouring out. That's a helluva bind to get in by yourself

I hunted by myself one time. I had went Huntin with my buddies and had a dry run. Was takin the backroads home and a lil sow crossed the road. I knew the place she crossed to so I stopped and let my dogs go. I crossed the fence and watched them tryin to work it. Then They crossed back across the road to a place I didn't kno and five mins later they were bayed up. I had let my cd run loose cause I thought it would be quick. At the time my cd was about 45 lbs. Got up there to see a big boar wearing an earring and runnin around fighting my other two dogs. They weren't helpin hold just bayin. I went up to leg him and he bout got me and then took off draggin my cd. Went to a creek and I went in after him and managed to grab one leg and stick him with the other. It was all I could do to get that done. I'm only bout a buck fifty and this boar was an easy 200. Oh and i dropped my flashlight in the water so I had to make it back to the truck in the dark draggin three dogs that didn't wanna go. I was wore plum out. And never hunted alone since then

I end up hunting by myself prob half the time I go I like it, alot of the time I go it's spur of the moment on the place I live or one close  an I can start an finish hunting when I want An i can also run all my dogs I don't have to leave any behind like when I hunt with buddies, I run 2 finder holder/rcd an a cur. I've had a couple of hairy times with big boars in tanks this year thow I'll prob invest in a pistol soon. But it's a hell of alot easyer to keep the hogs alive an load them in the truck if u r not by yourself.

hunt by myself but 90% of the time, i have been very fortunate so far in these mtns. sometimes i will carry a radio collar with me, now that im getting a little older, Sad and tell my wife what number is on the collar before i leave, and tell her general area im headed, but usually end up way away from where i start.

I usually always hunt by myself. My dogs are fairly close ranging dogs and I like walking and looking. I think as long as you know your dogs and can call them off a hog and they're not gritty you're fine. I've gotten on some bad hogs by myself. Never had a dog cut when I was by myself either. Just don't get in a hurry or act like you're invincible.

i much prefer to fly solo, if i had to take someone i like to take one of my kids but they are still a little bit young at the monent, my rule of thumb for them is as long as they can quickly get up a tree if needed they can come.

the only downside i have found is having no one there to take a pic for me, i try to balance the camera on the 4 wheeler but a dog will jump up and knock it over before the shot 9 times out of ten  (ive got alot of pic of grass  lol).

I used to hunt alot by myself, but have started hunting more with a friend in the past 3 years.  I am by myself in the woods most of the time anyway, even when other people go along.  With no road access, it's a back woods running exercise.  I've caught and killed lots of hogs by myself.

That's the part that gets me is having to get into a tank or crossing a creek or a river solo. That is when things get hairy good thing don't have to worry about too much of that this summer. Tongue

When i hunt by myself my catch dog is a 22 or 9mm.  It will keep you out of a jam.
