i hate doing this but sometimes it's neccesary on certain dogs . put em on a long line and comand here and gently pull em to ya then praise and give a treat. my old plott gyp would follow you all the way to the truck after a LONGDAY and when she reliezed we was loading up she was gone . used to have to catch her at the last hog . and this method helped her out cause she loved cheeto's  Grin

also if you have tritronics with a tone feature, when you use the line to call her in tone her at the same time, eventually you will just have to fit the tone and she should come in

Is she not coming to you because she is scared of you or she don't like being put up?

She wont come to anyone. She hates being put up she busted through her chainlink kennel 2 weeks ago. I have had her since she was a pup she use to stay in the house with us and she use to love to play with my daughter but once she went outside and kenneled she changed. I have never put a boot to her or anything she just wild

It might sound crazy, but try walking toward her backwards when you are trying to catch her.  They see it as less confrontational so they are less likely to run off.  Eventually they'll come around.  I wish I could take credit for the idea but I got it from somebody that knows dogs a lot better than me.

THAT is why I am a so uptight about ---TRAINING--- basic obedience--- I hate chasing a dog--- the way I do it is--- from puppy the minute them puppies start to eat I whistle at them my own tone--- once they get bigger i continue that and then grab a pocket full of treats---every time I whistle and that puppy comes to me I give him a treat I have very few issues with dogs coming when called--- I picked a whistle because I believe it carries further in the woods and they can tell when its me or someone else doing the whistle to--- I aint much for yelling so a whistle works better for me.

---- NOW---- the tricky part is when you call a dog and he doesn’t come  Angry  Angry  Angry--- no matter how mad and how frustrated you are Huh? Huh? Huh?--- once you get a hold of that dog YOU MUST NOT BEAT IT OR SCOLD HIM IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM---- you have to PRAISE him and be kind to the animal--- IF you happen to beat it or scold it in any way you have just walked 1000 feet backwards--- every time you call him he will think about that a$$whopping you handed to him--- IF you happen to be kind and give him a treat or even a nice rub down he will remember that and assimilate the word "COME" (or what ever word you pick) with a good thing and be eager to come to ya when called.

I go as far as to teach my dogs TWO more commands SIT and STAY Smiley Smiley Smiley--- if we get close to say a road or a house and I yell to my dogs to SIT and STAY while I go retrieve them it saves my dogs from the wheels of a car or a gun shot of the neighbor thinking his chickens are getting eaten by a yote or something.  VERY simple commands that take a puppy a few times to learn---

My dogs are much more than just hunting tools to me I enjoy EVERY aspect of caring to them--- from breeding, basic obedience, feeding, hunting and so on.

TAKES time and effort.

OH and dont chase him--- thats a game for a dog and he will just keep running---look at how puppies play it will teach u a lot.

if that dog was in the house as a pup and now the pup can not be caught leads me to think that something was done wrong to make the dog not trust you...

when I was younger I let the pups out of their kennel after I "FED" so they could go play in the fenced in yard. When it was time to put them up I gave the command to come and to kennel. The pups looked at me like I was crazy. I would have to chase them down and put them up.THE ONLY TRAINING LESSON THE RECIEVED IN THEIR BRAIN WAS I CAN OUTRUN HIM AND I DON'T HAVE TO OBEY. The older they get they figure out they can out run us so they do it... but in reality we did it to ourselves...

Let them run first and then use food as a weapon to get them to come and to kennel. Now that makes sense...

We have to be smarter than the pups/dogs...One day my light bulb came on and I caught a brainstorm. Shocked Grin I am always looking for the easy way of doing things... Wink

Well, all I had to do is turn the pups loose and let them go play and let them just get tired.

I called them to me and I played with them and the were conditioned to come to me etc. etc. Once they got tired and got the "FEED" out and called them to the kennel... and they came running...They learned to come when called and they learned to be called out of the woods and learned to kennel even learned a hand signal to come in...WOW, THAT WAS EASY>>> :odid that before they ever went to the woods... Smiley

WE CAN CALL IT TRAINING I CALL IT CONDITIONING...or we can call it exposing the dog but to me it is a combo of both...

Now to the original question. Normally I get rid of this type of dog. But one of 2 things happened here IMO... One, someone called the dog and then discipled her and she got the wrong message, or, she was called back and she ran off because what she was doing was way better than coming to the call. This gives her the message that she doen't have to come in and then she learns she can out run you.
Reason number 2 is maybe she developed a mental condition if you did everything right.

Let us assume the problem is man made... I am no expert but the long weedeater string sounds good to me. just call her to you when you have control of the string and then gently pull her to you and pet her up good and give her a small treat.

Take her for long walks on a leash and just try to get her to trust you. Do not drag her around. Must train her to walk on leash first...

EVERYTHING YOU DO WITH HER MUST BE POSITIVE.

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
