Should make him hunt harder, especially when she is in heat around him, He'll be hunting hogs and not the other. Wink

Had a lot of males and females that were fixed and they are even better huntings dog.  If you hunt them reg. they stay in hunting shape better, just don't let them stay kennel and not get to work.

Had an awesome female a couple years ago that was fixed when I got her. If she was better than that before she was fixed I'd have a hard time believing it.

i put sheep docking bands on the dogs i want nutered and in about 10 days you cant even tell hey ever had any nuts i have stopped nearly every dog agressive male i have ever put one on  and it stops the peeing on every bush they come to-- they are thinking about hunting not marking or breeding-  and if any of my dogs rode a cut dog he would have a band on him the next day  haha dont want to make anyone mad but i been hunting 40 yrs and have always done the same thing females only come in heat every once in a while and a male is in heat all the time   just my way of thinking good luck adios

I've heard both sides on this debate and I was raised to beleive that they get fat any lazy and loose thier desire when you cut them.  However, I now beleive the opposite to be true.   I don't think it takes the hunt out of them just gets thier mind on the right kind of business.  It might make them gain weight easier but that just means you can hunt them harder, and if they are put up for a few weeks just cut back on the feed.  Thats easy to do, and the dog food bill wont be as big.

I recently read up on this because I have a male dog that I was considering cutting.  I dont plan on breeding him and it would get his mind off marking and breeding and more on hunting.  Also this dog is a bit spooky and I thought it would chill him out a little bit if I cut him.   But I found out that the opposite is true.  Cutting a dog that is shy or skiddish usually makes them worse.  A lack of testosterone can lead to a lack of confidence in dogs that are shy.  But, with Dog agressive males or dominant dogs that need a reality check, cutting them would get the job done, and you wont have any accidents. Shocked.  Not to mention if a gyp comes in heat don't leave them at home leave the stud dogs at home and bring the cut dogs. Grin
