I was wondering what you guys use for tapeworms? My dogs have dropped weight recently and one has real bad. Well my uncle told me it was probably tape worms because i worm them pretty regular and the wormer doesnt kill tape and hook worms. So any input will be appreciated, he told me about a powder but just seein what else i could use. Thanks

Get you something that contains Pyrantel Pamoate and Praziquantel. Worm X Plus is a good one and there are several other off brands that are a little cheaper.
The Praziquantel is the one that will kill the tape worms.

1/10 cc per 10 lbs of dog weight with ivermectin, I've been using this a while and had NO probs with peracites!! helps keep fleas at bay for a while too!! for example 50 lbs dog = 5/10ths or 1/2 cc

Praziquantel is the ingredient your looking for.  Drontal is usually the pill you'll get from the vet's office, but also pretty costly.

You can get the same product sold as a fish medication much cheaper.

http://www.amazon.com/Fish-Tapes-Forte-170mg-Cap/dp/B0013PTIOK

On a bottle of D-Worm (over the counter praziquantel usually available at the feed stores), it states each tablet = 34mg and recommends 5 tablets for a dog 60 lbs or over.  34 X 5 = 170mg...same as the fish tapes forte.  Bottle of 5 = $27.99 / 5 doses = $5.60 per treatment.

I've also used Happy Jack's tapeworm expeller and it worked fine, but the pills are about as big as quarters and you have to give several depending on weight....quite a chore when I tried.  There is also recomendations on the Happy Jacks to withhold food for a period before and after so crushing the pills onto food or wrapping in something isn't an option.

strongid paste will get hooks...there are generic brands, it is the yellow paste and the active ingredient is pyrantyl pamoate. most feed stores will have it and so does TSC.

I was told Zimecterin Gold got hooks too. I looked through what was at TSC and did not see hooks listed on any of the ones I looked at but I did not want to keep someone there as I read every box and they did not know what to use. I want to make sure I am getting everything cleaned out.
