Making a Dog

I tell ya its a dat blame job to make a dog a real hog dog!  First off you got to get you a dog with a lot of upside then its noting but work work work after that.  Take him to see his first hog then two are three . Then Cattle break him is a must for me.  Then take him to the woods and deer break him among other woods trash .  Then put him with some good caliber dogs so he can learn the right way if you run him with crap he is gonna be crap.  Then its woods time after woods time a year then two on to three years .  I have never finished a dog in under three years so how the hell can all these 1.5 year old dogs and 2 year old dogs be finished dogs I see so much off for sale  ??  And this is with well well well bred dogs from great woods dogs for generations .  Sure they can find a hog but man it seems like its a endless job till they are three to four years old and close to finished I don't think you ever get a fully finished dog because they learn just like we do every day !

Is this just me are am I doing something wrong !

sounds like you have higher standards than the guys you speak of. 
I have a hunting buddy that has bought a bunch of these "finished dogs" lmao and not one has made the cut. People should be honest about what they sell. A wise OLD man once told me "Listen with your eyes"

Its just a ton of work . I could see a couple dogs here and there being way ahead of some but man it dont happen that much .  A man can sell his dog for what he wants no big deal to me I dont buy dogs .  But I know it takes a long time and a ton of work just to get one half way right much less close to finished fine tuned and ready to rock .  People should know better if a man tried to sell me a highly finshed dog at 20-24 months old for a big price,  he and his dog would come huntin with me on my places and he might would go home with a different opinion .

(Finished)---means covering him with dirt!    The little white spot on top of chicken $hit, its still chicken $hit!   Its all just talk.  Maby see if some of the 2 yr old finished dogs could even keep up with your puppies,   one mans trash is anothers super dog.  You cant knock the guys that have not had the privilage of hunting behind a great dog,  they just dont no.

I had a finished dog once an exgirlfriend thought it would be nice to take my dog to a groomers and when i went to get him the lady told me he was finished poor dog had pink bow and nails he was the only finished dog I've ever owned atleast that's what the lady said       I've only owned one real good dog that in my opinion was as close to finished as finished gets he was 9yrs old and i didn't buy him got him given to me as a gift for helping an old hunter out he was 7 months old

making a dog should be fun work...

that's why I try to breed my own, or, buy a pup that has a lot of potential...because the kind of dog I like usually is not for sale...

and for sure doesn't happen over night....

If it was easy, everyone would have super dogs and I don't mean the ones on the dogtrade.  There's nothing better to me than watching a puppy grow and progress into a hogdog.  Some people can't handle the time, have the patience, or want to, to actually take a dog through all this. 

Man, I've got a dog right now that is off some good blood, but the guy who had him before me let him do what he wanted.  He has a bunch of bad habits but the dog seems to have alot of good qualities and seems to have a nose and smells sign he shouldn't be able to in my opinion, so I'm working with him and am gonna do my best to give him every opportunity to make a hogdog.

Sounds like "finished" means exactly that. they're "finished" with that dog, don't mean the dogs finished. LOL
