Last night we took our 9 mo. old bmc, Kate out on a hunt. We didn't do anything extremely out of the ordinary compared to how we normally hunt. Several of the good strike dogs started acting excited, and she did too. The strike dogs hauled buns into the brush- about 900 yards, and she followed for about 120 yards, but then came back. ( She has started following them, but occasionally she will come back to the truck to wait for the bay with us, so this is normal.) We heard the main strike dog hammerin down on a pretty good bay through some nasty brush, and we knew of a road much closer to the bay, so we drove the truck in that direction. We left Kate on the ground, got much closer to the bay, and when she could here the bay, she took off into the brush-- acting very excited like she always does. She ran a little way into the brush, but came back. Meanwhile, we were grabbing catchdogs and making our way to the bay, and she ran with us the whole way there. The strike dogs rolled out, so we got the cd's and slowly headed their direction as they were quickly gaining on us. Kate stuck with us, and I noticed she was acting a little funny. About 5 minutes later, she stove up real bad, foaming and bubbling at the mouth, unable to control her bowel movements (thick clear liquid began streaming out of her), and every muscle in her body was twitching uncontrollably, from her head to her hind legs, her guts were making all sorts of loud noises too. This lasted for about two hours. We force fed her some Gatorade, and her body quickly responded to that. She is much much better now, but she will not eat- we have tried scrambled eggs, raw meat and plain ol dog food. She will eat a few blades of grass when we take her outside, so we gave her baking soda-- but still no progress. The vet says possibly feeding her syrup will help, but he has been out on call all day.
I have seen dogs get all stove up like this before, but I have never seen it with this intensity or last this long. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this before, has any ideas, etc... Thank you for the help in advance.

Never had one get stove up that easily, but several years ago i had one get hit real hard, no cuts just hit, wouldnt eat and could tell he really hurt. Only thing i could get him to eat was fried chicken. Dont know why, but after a couple of weeksof making friends with the fat chick that closed at k f c he was fine and eating again.

Thank you for the idea! Luckily she was able to eat some raw meat last night, so hopefully she will have alot more strenght and energy today!! Theres a kfc right around the corner- ill be sure and become real good buddies with the fat chick that closes! that just sounds way too beneficial to pass up! Am still very curios as to what happened to her to cause that, hopefully we can prevent it in the future!

Was the dog hunted a day or two before this hunt? Dont know what would cause the sickness but the stove up part might be something to do with bones(Hips). Might be a good idea to just take the dog to the vet and get it checked out.

She hadn't been hunted in about 4 days... At first we thought she was too hot, but I just wasn't sure if that would cause the muscle spasms, uncontrollable bowel movements, etc...
I didn't even think about the flipped stomach or colic, I will definately research more about those. A vet told us she could possibly be hypoglycemic, so that is something else for us to consider as well.
Thank ya'll very much for the .02! It's very helpful!!
