We have always started ALL of our dogs by casting them. This is mostly how we hunt. Now, when the temps get high in the summer we will let the dogs wind off of the ranger to save their legs or if we have a lot of land to cover, some times we will let them wind because they are long range and we don't want them to wear out before finding a hog. Now our veteran dog, Foot has figured out that if he starts whinning and yipping, we turn him loose.
So now sometimes he lies just to be turned loose. Any one else ever have a dog lie to you? He will still go out and hunt for a hog once he is on the ground but Im pretty sure that he isn't winding it. He is just pretending to wind one to get put on the ground. Our other veteran dog, Red is very trust worthy and also has a good nose so we have started ignoring Foot and watching Red.

We have a westie that will whimper when he is ready to come indoors...if we don't get up to open the door then he waits a few minutes and then goes to plan B...and that is to bark like he is barking at an intruder...this usually works...we are on to him but if he is was smart to figure that out then he deserves the break...  |

Sounds like a smart well seasoned veteran. He want's to hunt real bad, and/or please you real bad. I know you don't like him lying but if he's that determined, shoot, let him roll. Sounds like he's trying to make something happen. Get em Foot !

I love hearing stories about stuff like this. You got to love that connection and how well you know a dog you have been hunting behind for years. Amazing how smart they can get, if only they could talk......

Thanks guys. I wouldn't trade him for anything. It is funny how your dogs learn to read you and figure out how to manipulate your actions though. Im sure there are lots of guys on here with stories about their dogs doing similiar things.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't trade him for anything. It is funny how your dogs learn to read you and figure out how to manipulate your actions though. Im sure there are lots of guys on here with stories about their dogs doing similiar things.
This is deff a good post! I have two of my dogs that I have been around for years. They without a doubt get to know you and start screwing with you. LOL! |

Got a redbone gyp (house dog). She likes my favorite tv chair and I swear she tricks me into gettin up so she can steal it ! Think maybe she's watchin payper view when I'm gone too !lol. But I love her to death and she knows it !

Our Charlie dog does it, he is rediculous and we have tried to break him of it but he has learned if he is persistent enough my husband will cave.
