Underdog has used them on hogs...his would be the opinion that I would seek. I believe he has told me that you have to run them with rough curs. You're only gonna get a few barks before they catch.

Yes they can work, even the smaller ones BUT they do have a short life span as most have no reverse gear. I like one or two w/ two or three big dogs....trying to run just two or three patts will tend to get them hurt. My old Looney dog was a strike dog delux but if she was solo or no dogs honored her bay she was gettin cut. A good one should have plenty of nose and "busy" or hunt to them.Depending on the breeding and the individual hardness of the dog I think they fit well maybe not as good in general as jadg terrier but a good one can be comprable. How is yours bred? If you do start yours in a pen be sure to use a big enough hog, something that can bang her a bit and try to make it bay. Only other thing is if you have started the dog in underground work I would be carefull free casting one as it may disapear in ground w/o you knowing were ( I have had them underground for up to five hours before)  but if the dog is green and you start it on hogs you should be ok.

Here is Mojo in his cut gear lol

Here is what happens when they get no help....it doesn't show the other cuts in her chest...

Underground as in "going to ground" entering them in a fox "set" or badger, coon, grinner etc. or brush/trash piles or old buildings. They are bred to go to ground to be dug to and can and will get in to some tight spots...

Like this ....

Sure nuff..... Wink    That was actually when she was older...a bud has some young dogs and we took her to try and get a strike for the new dogs...she did alright but never got any help, she bayed a few barks at about 1/2 mile from were we started and we headed that way as fast as we could, got to the area and she was another 1/4 mile away from the first area and another 5-6 barks (that was all she gave before TRYING to catch one)and that was the last time we heard her we could not find her after he broke the second time and found her (alive) and cut up seven days later. Needless to say we cull a few young dogs that day.

This is the hog we caught 7 days later ( the day we found her) he killed two cur dogs and a bull dog.

Thank you....As far as if that is the same hog...in dream land I would like to think so but will never really know....

I just got my terrier locator colars from my bud in Holland, these will help w/ the ground work as we lost Spot last year underground after diggin till daylight. All these years w/o them and never lost a dog underground till we lost him so when I put any in the ground from now on they will have a locator on....now I just have to practice on useing them lol

Spot after a good dig one night

Those locators are cool. Do you use your dogs for both hogs and underground or do you have a seperate pack for each?

That is AWSOME! So u send them in a hole to check for a fox? I only have one but i have lots of animals around cause i live in the country but she has been going across the street to a 40 acre wooded thicket but i guess i better keep a better eye on her . Thanks this is interesting.
