Mine are each 8x12. The slab has a back curb and drops to the back rear corner for drainage. Wished I would have installed a septic system  or drainage of some sort to relocate the crap. Also should have made one additional kennel.

I ran a platform across the back for the dogs to lay and to hopefully minimize fleas and ticks in the houses.

Great set up, BUT if that new law passes All kenels must be 10' x 15', 150 sq/ft. And those will be against the law for housing dogs.

relating to the unlawful restraint of a dog.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1.  Section 821.077(a), Health and Safety Code, is amended to read as follows:
(a)  An owner may not leave a dog outside and unattended

(1)  in an enclosure of less than 150 square feet for each dog over six months of age

[(3)]  in the case of extreme weather conditions, including conditions in which:

(A)  the actual or effective outdoor temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit;

(B)  a heat advisory has been issued by a local or state authority or jurisdiction; or

(C)  a hurricane, tropical storm, or tornado warning has been issued for the jurisdiction by the National Weather Service; or

(3)  in a restraint.

Sweet kennel setup Rex.

Those of you with slabs, what type of finish do you prefer?    rough/ brushed/ or smooth?

Smooth seems like it would be easier to clean, but I question if it will keep the dogs pads as tough as a rough/brushed finish.  Thoughts?

Mine are semi-rough, I just used a long 2 x 4 and tapped it across the top of the forms to level and get the air bubbles out and then let it dry.

That bill is crap and hopefully will be denied. I doubt it will be enforced if it did pass, especially in my area but in the case that it does and is.....I think I can modify them to meet the law.

Chris

I have a smooth finish. Mine are also stained and sealed. I like smooth so it will be easier to clean and easier on the dogs. I have never had a problem with pads.

Good looking kennels Rex.
This bill will be before the floor on 4-21-09 and information on it and support is on the TDHA site.
I will be in Austin Tuesday and a lot of people from over the state will be there.

Help if you can, nothing else call your repersentives.

I have both, the kennels at my property are semi-smooth with dirt combo and the ones at my house are all SLICK concrete.  I will never have any again that aren't slick as can be.  Still makes the pads tough but a lot easier to clean up after.

I just made a phone call to each of these people,
Each office took my name, and my position regarding the bill. Some asked me to elaborate. After mentioning some details the bill involves, the aide's response was, "this bill will die a miserable death"  I sure hope she is correct.
