I have a 9 year old male bmc. He is short to med range. He usually hunts 200 to 400 yards out on the Garmin. He will stay busy hunting at first but he is 9 yrs old so if you have been hunting a while and haven't hit anything he will start checking in more and more often. He will honar any bay he can hear.
