This was my great great grandpa Shaw with his fox hounds around Goldthwaite Texas in the early 1900’s. My Grandpa gave me this pic and is now in his 80’s. An old coon hunter himself. He told me stories about how he ran with Grandpa Shaw when he was a kid. Say they would cut out from the house and when the hounds hit a track they would make a fire and wait. Sometimes they caught a fox and sometimes they didn’t. The old timers just like to tell stories and listen to the hounds work. Grandpa said Grandpa Shaw fed his hounds nothing but corn bread and left over scraps. Back then they never really had money so everything was bought with corn that was farmed. Also one thing that my grandpa remembered very well was how close he was to his hounds. Grandpa said you can borrow and mess with anything he’s got but you mess with my hounds and then there was a big problem.

thanks for sharing...now that is the old days in my book...but the 1970's and 1980's pics...now those seem like it was just yesterday to me...  Grin Smiley I guess it all depends on how old we are as to how we see things... Smiley

Awesome pic man. I truly love these old photographs of our heritage.
Most of the folks back then ran foxhounds seems like and utilized the same style of tracking systems. Lol

Underdog hooked me up with horn awhile back and have sinced trained all my dogs to come in with it. Great piece of heritage that is sadly under utilized.

Here are couple of my grandpaw from around the same timeframe.

Again great pic man. Thanks for sharing.

These are old horns that were used in the fox hound days.  I still got em and been thinking about training
my dogs to em.  I'm fixing to have to start digging out photos now.
