Alright I got a guy trying to give me a 7 month old full blood red bone the question I have is do they make good hog dogs? Never messed with this breed before she's been started n a pen n will bay, another concern I have is are they usually open on track. Any info is helpful thanks.

I've been told that they tend to be quieter than other hounds. I have heard of some great redbone cross dogs.

Ive owned a couple dang good redbone hog dogs over the yrs. But like all breeds depends on the individual dog. Most of them were pretty gritty too.
I would definitely give it a try, wont hurt a thing to try out a dog ready to start and be trained the way you want it. Might not be silent tho.

For what its worth, I have hunted behind two redbone/bmc crosses, who are some darn good find dogs. They are littermates and both hunt out great as far as I am concerned. Both arent the least bit rough, but they hunt out good and can find some hogs and will bay the fire out of a hog till reinforcements show up. Both are silent on track and wont bark until they are looking at a hog. I've got a pup out of one of them, crossed with a cat, and at a yr old is showing me what I would like to see.

If it were me, and was getting it for free and had some room, I would sure give it a chance and see what it could do. If it dont work out then do what needs to be done.

I've got a full blood redbone and he's got the nose from hell. If there's hogs where were at he will find them. He's only open when he's on a hogs heels. He won't catch it tho he just nips at it.
