I don't hunt normally during the week, but since I was gonna be home I called Eric and made a run. We have been on some runners lately, and this lil sow sure gave us a run for our money. Trying to get some pups some woods time when my older dog Rose struck and bayed across the ranch. We haul over to her and send some support. As we head to bay with catchdogs it breaks. They trail it for a half mile off the property then start back to us when they pick up another track and bay. ( my dogs suck and don't realy have much bottom)
Well that bay breaks as fast as it started and the race was on ! They run it down one side of property then across then down the other side cross the road. I start knocking on doors and try to find some access to get to them now .69 miles from road. No one at home because it is a week day. The bay broke again and head east paralleling  the road. They run another 1.2 miles and head back south towards road. We race to get in front of them on county road but we couldn't get there before Brenda crossed but managed to pick up the others. She is still trailing and we try calling her out but she keeps getting further. She is angling west towards a road so we run around to cut her off. We get 250yrds from her and she is bates again ! We are standing on the road trying to make a decision when a rancher rolls up  as we are talking trying to get access the hog breaks and heads strait to us... It crosses the road back towards our place. We catch Brenda up as she crosses behind hog...
I wasnt giving up yet, I knew the hog was going back to our place so I cut some fresh dogs on the track and they follow. The hog had a good 5 min ahead of them so I watch the garmin as they make another loop around the place (over 3 miles). Then back across the road.

They are bayed solid for a good yen minutes before we get back to county road and start knocking on doors. Finally get an answer and she was a b!tch... "Said don't want you or your dogs around here." I was very polite and told her the circumstances... She was rude so I walked past her place and went in for my dogs. At this point I had enough... Left cards on all the doors in the area. I don't like doing it but had to get dogs they had been bayed for almost an hour by then.
Finally get to them and release catchdogs... Urine in only to find Debeaux caught on back of the neck ! I start cursing him and stick the hog ! As I'm talking yeah to him I realize she has NO EARS... must be why she ran so damn hard. We catch everyone and get gone. Called it a day !

If those dogs didn't track that sow 8 miles they didn't go a step... And my dogs suck... I was very proud of my ol dirtydogs !

Sounds like your CD was smart and improvised pretty well. Good Job!

Maybe a dumb question but, how do you suppose she lost them ears? I've heard people that don't want doggers on there land will catch hogs, cut there ears off and turn them loose again (I know hogs move and roam) so I'm not saying you were somewhere you shouldn't have been that's just one of the explanations I've heard.

Jryans I have a man where I live who runs dogs just like us he is and elderly man that does not use a catch dog strictly bay dogs he catches tons of hogs he is very old school has about as many scars as most of our catch dogs he doesn't like other diggers catching the hogs he has caught or he just doesnt like other diggers idk but I know for a fact every boat he catches with decent teeth he cuts their ears off to make a so called dog killer had a catch dog get 18 different pokes last year cause of one of these hogs

Also this could be the very reason the sow above ran 8 miles as said she has been caught before most likely how she lost her ears

Thats brutal! I didnt know if it could have been a birth defect or fighting with other hogs or what not.

Yes sir it is very brutal and lack of respect for our sport in my opinion trying to kill other peoples dog I kill every one I catch with no ears to hopefully eliminate the problem eventually

I believe she has been caught by some coyotes or dogs before... My guess some kids in the area that couldn't get to their dogs in time and the dogs left it for dead.

A fella in my area traps.  of ones he traps, he barrs the boars & then on both males & females, he cuts their ears back to almost nothing to mark them.

In all the time we have been hunting the place next to him, prolly 10yrs, we have only caught 1. It was  big barr round
360 lbs,  w/ no ears, & some pretty big teeth. Ended up mounting him.

Thats the truth, anyone cutting off a hogs ears and letting it go is an idiot, unfortunantly there is no shortage of them around.
