Finally ....I see somebody else doin some releasing.

We raised and turned bobwhites loose for years around here.  Only a few left due to the fire ants reaking havoc.
I called up a lil rooster yesterday that was probably a turn out from several years back.

Very happy to see someone else still doing it.  Fill up the woods with em bud.  Wink

Awesome pic with them in the road.

Looks like your raising quite a few. This year is the first year in more than I can remember that we have a few here. I know I've seen several covies. Be nice to have them come back like they were 25-30 years ago.

Thanks we are trying to get them to start back. We started releasing them 2 years ago just a few at a time but this year we decided to raise a few so we bought some brood stock and raised some where from 350 to 400 birds and we released 90% of them.

I know one thing i seen more hawks and wild cats in the past few month then ive seen in my life!

Cut my teeth hunting quail behind dogs out in Olney and Seymour. We had around 3500 acres leased for quite a few years. They started killing some big deer around there, and we couldn't afford it anymore. Sure miss following them dogs around them parts.

I have a good friend that lives in Amite La.  He has a couple hundred acres of commercial pine that is about 15 yrs. old. He's  on some
sort of conservation program designed to restore the natural Bob white habitat. I think they planted  switch grass throughout the thinned
out pine trees. They are seeing a few coveys but not many.  How do you go about turning them loose? At what age ? do you have to keep
them in a holding pen on the property for a certain time before turning them loose ?
