we use the valblazen and ivermectin combo and it seems to work good. my mom works at a vets office and the vet said that they use an ivermectin type pill now for heartworms and said that the ivermectin liquid would do the same as the pill so thats what we use now

You need to be careful what you buy to give the dogs. there are Ivermectin 1%, Ivermectin 3%, Ivermectin Plus, Not all is safe for dogs, and if you go into a  feed store and ask for Ivermectin, most will give you what ever, don't trust just anybody, learn the right way and get the right stuff. None of those cattle wormers are "approved" for dogs, nor do they have directions for use on dogs, it is considered an injectable but dogs is best given oral.
