Ive got a lacy x leopard dog who wont trash on anything but a coyote. He winds em' trails em', and it seems like if theres a coyote around he could care less about a pig. Otherwise hes the best dog Ive got. Hes still young but I just cant break him of getting into these brawls with the coyote's. Anyone else have this problem with the lacy's?? A couple people told me it was do to the breed?

( By the way Forrest, That dog I got is finishing out pretty quick, He's striking at over 800yds and gets mean on a pig!! Hes turned into an outstanding dog, if I can just get him off the coyote,s)

That's great! I'm glad to hear he's workin. Never had a problem with him on coyote, but I knew he liked to get rough with a hog. The meaner the hog the meaner he gets. I knew he'd be a good dog, cause he was always movin and huntin, never still. Keep me updated and good luck with the coyote thing.  Smiley

I have a hunting partner with a dog thats part stag hound and has the same problem.  He ended up attaching a bell to the dogs collar when he turns him out.  The idea is that the coyotes hear the bell long before the dog gets close and will head for the hills.  Since starting this, he hasn't had one problem.

I don't know if this particular dog was only trashing on sight or trailing.  If trailing's a problem, the bell might not be of any use.

Get you another one. 2 will kill the coyote quicker and then get on with their hog hunting Smiley

PS: yes I am serious. They are super territorial and mine will stretch a song dog quick. It usually happens a couple of times a year.

My lacy will definately go out of his way to get it on with a song dog.  He's good about not trashing on other stuff but a coyote will work him into a frenzy.

He's out.  And you're out.  And i don't think I'm in either.
