It's been all over this year and actually EHD is what keeps me employed. You don't need to worry much about it in wild deer though, what would you like to know and why do you ask?

More in the high fences and particularly in the breedin pens. Just been readin up about it and noticed it has kinda spread. Notice it a lot more in the deer with northern blood that die from it. I help some people that are in the business of breedin deer. Wonderin if there was any preventions some have figured out. You can read stuff on the Internet to use but just wonderin if anybody on here has had personal experience with it?

Ok good deal, like I said EHD is what keeps me in business. I work in breeding pens everyday and install full pen misting systems that kill the pesky lil critters that instigate it. I'm not a dr or a scientist though so if you really want to know about the disease itself I could pass along a few phone numbers to the guys we use to help us make the best pest control decisions and EHD/Bluetounge info.

If you'd like to know a bit more about what I do and how it works to aid in the prevention of future cases of the diseases just click the link in my signature. Not only do the bugs transmit EHD, but just simply stress the deer. When deer are stressed they don't grow as well so as a side benefit, reduce the stress in your herd, grow better deer.

Yep all the time.  It starts as a mitch fly and they lay eggs on the nose of deer that turns into larva and larva cause hemorrhage. It is basically the same as blue tongue in sheep and goats.  Yes there are some vaccines but we have had little to no success with them.  The only thing that has helped is high rates or antibiotics and steroids.  For us it usually starts the end of july and is over by the end of august but didn't see any till late august and have only lost a couple deer this year but have 2 have been high end.  Deer are looking for a place to die as it is and stress easy so anything that makes them sick is no good.  What tbob does helps a lot putting in mister systems that kill the flys with chemical added to the spray.  There are something like 30 different strains of ehd and this is the last I heard may be more now just a couple years ago it was 18.  With us one year olds are usually the hardest hit but the last years 2 year olds are the ones we are loosing.  Last year was BAD for us.  Lost probally 60 percent of our 2 year olds.  I could type all night on this as this is partly what keeps me in a job keeping the deer healthy.

I read about the mistin systems. If its somethin they'd want to look into id for sure let you know. And maybe figure somethin out. Ehd was just somethin that came up when we were sittin around bs'in the other day. I'll have to get on there and look it up on signature. Thanks for the information! Appreciate it

Will say though we have lost just as many "texas" deer as we have the northern influenced deer.  Funny thing is it seems more genetic related than necessarily north vs texas deer.  I will let yall in on a secret most of these "texas" deer in breeders pens are deer bought up north and brought down here before the borders were shut down in the 90s.  Sever guys saw the opportunity to make money so they went north bought deer brought them to texas then through money and politics convinced the texas government to shut down the borders.  It worked for a few years they had the market here in texas cornered for pen raised deer.  Not no more lol.  So if someone tells you their deer are ehd immune they are full of bs.

There big on straight Texas breed deer with no northern blood. We all know the system used to be cheated and stuff changed up in the pedigrees (just example-sire & dams names tweaked) to make deer seem Texas breed with no northern blood. You get it in any business....noticed just bout any deer is capable of gettin it. It's more in the immune system of each deer whether it is fatal or not.

Purebreed is dead on. I said earlier, I'm no dr and I'll also tell you I'm no salesman either. I won't blow smoke up your butt for the sake of closing a deal, mostly because I don't close deals, I install systems. that's all I do, and I'm good at it. There's lots and lots of folks who had major losses till they got a deer guardian system and afterwards have had tremendous success in maintaining the health of their animals. The system itself isn't magic, it's real simple science really. Control the cuase of the disease, and when it does rear it's ugly head it will be FAR LESS severe than it woulda otherwise been. Think about it, you got a 200 deer herd, and a system to keep the bugs off em, one gets sick and you being a good raiser, you quickly notice the sick one and deal with it.
The old standard was a deer got sick and you tried your best but it didn't help much because within a few days half the herd was sick too.

If they do decide they wanna consider a misting system, please feel free to give me a shout and I'll steer them in the right direction. It's not as expensive as
You may think, and our systems don't take near the material to install as the old POS systems those gypsies were running around selling for a while.

Just looked at the sight and I can say Deer guardian is actually the system we looked up. if they do decide to put one in I believe they would go with yal. They may have already called and discussed some of yals product.
