Got say, one of the most impressive, hard dogs I've ever seen was a large red pit with amazing muscle definition. I asked the owner what dog food he used and he said Purina Dog chow with meat scraps. Anyone else still feed it? If not, what do you use?

A few dogs can't digest Purina because of the soy and corn, but if your dog can digest it, it seems to be a real value. I have found that pits and curs can digest it real well. Bulldogs vary. Like I said, the pit I saw looked like he was carved out of stone. I thought he was fed some real fancy, expensive feed with buffalo or something in it. Not so, just Purina dog chow and fatty meat scraps. I've seen a million dogs in my life nothing came close to that pit's muscularity. Course maybe it was just genetic. Whatever.

I've feed it to every one of my dogs and I have had a lot of dogs from basset hounds pits must Englishbull dogs and labs and now curs they all do good on it.
But my pit I have now I switched him to the pro plan sensitive skin & stomach cuz of his instant problems and it is by far the best food I have ever fed

I've been feeding Purina One Chicken and Rice for about 2 years....hands down the best food I've ever used. It's so digestable that my dogs only crap once or twice a day and it's always hard and almost black.....never a soft pile. They stay in shape on half or less of this food as compared to anything else I've used. My white dog's hair had always been dull, never shiny looking, when I started her on this food, her hair started to shine and the faint brown spots in her coat even got a bit darker. Yes, it costs about twice what these other foods cost, but when you feed half or less per dog, that equals less money per dog......can't understand what's so hard to grasp about that one.....so yes, I'm a fan of it.

I love purina, my retrievers get it in pro plan, the hogdogs get Diamond Hi Energy, it seems to keep their weight well and they dont need as much as some of the other brands.  Purina requires more per meal than the diamond, and its a little less expensive, thats the only reason i switched.  They all have sweet muscle definition, pretty coats and HI ENERGY, but purina/pro plan is great too.  Only reason i keep the retrievers on pro plan is that's what they have always eaten and do well :s may be silly to feed 2 different food, but hey
