There is a very large ranch in the Dodson prarie near Palo Pinto, TX that is over run with hogs. I see them almost everytime I go out to our place off the Highway 180. You can see them eating what was made of the wheat(not much) and just tearing up the fields. Yesterday I seen problably 10-12 black hogs over 200#s eating out of a cattle feeder at 4:30 in the afternoon. Now here is the kicker I have talked to everyone around there and they have all said absolutly 100% no hunting. I was wanting to make a trip to the ranch managers house there at the HQ to talk to him. If in fact that they will not let me dog them do yo think I should ask him to trap? How would some of yall handle this situation. It seems to be a very sensitive situation and overstepping could ruin the entire deal.

i would go over and meet them for shure , they may not mind the hogs  Huh?,    at least leave your # and tell them to call if they need your help, traps, dogs, what ever they want.

if you hit it off  with them they may let you in

those guys must of had a bad experience with a half a$$ dog hunter to not even consider it.

its not just hogs its deer, dove, duck, quail, nothing can be hunted.  Trust me some of the largest deer I have seen in this part of the country are right there safe and sound. I have a friend that lives in 160 acres right in the middle of it and he has lured some great deer in but the real monsters stay where its safe. He says he has only seen hogs on the very corner of his property a couple of times in 15 years. They try and hammer the point home putting no tresspassing/ hunting signs along their fence line when they bought out the surrounding property.

I usually just let it go however, you've gone and made yourself crazy and now you have to keep trying. Grin

My next step would be to write the ranch manager a well informed letter in regards to hog destruction, dog hunting techniques you use, quality and behavior of your dogs, etc, etc. Be sure to include that you will sign a ''release and weaver'' and supply a list of references if required.
In short, you need to make him aware that he has a hog problem and then convince him that you and your dogs are the best solution to that problem. Have a list of good, reputable references available for him so he can do a little snooping on you and your dogs from outside parties.
Just keep in mind that this man has the best interest for the ranch in mind with all his decision making and considering you for his hog problem wont be any different for him.

If he is receptive to your letter then follow up with a phone call and start building trust and repore with this guy.
It may take some time but I bet you will end up getting in the door if they have that many hogs on the place.
Hogs and the damage they do are usually our best friend when acquiring permission to hunt a new place!

Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks guys, my Father In Law said "Ill kiss your---  if you can get permission to drop a dog on that place".  I think ill get ahold of the guy and talk him up on trapping and then after awhile say well you know I could catch more of the bigger/ smarter ones if I could run my dogs. I would really want a few RCDs then since you can just drive up and the pigs wont run. Too easy my kind of hunting.

One other note.

I have a property owner that owns land adjacent to a property I hunt. The hogs have been working his place over for years and he still want allow me to hunt. One day he contacted me after the hogs worked over his personal driving range and 3 hole golf coarse behind his house and said he would allow me to only trap the hogs on his place if I could guarantee their safety and that they would be release back in the wild on some other place.
NO KIDDING!
I told him that the only thing I could guarantee is that they would be eaten eventually! By someone or something! I also told him that I had no interest in taking care of his problem at my expense and that he would have to call someone else.

I went to bed that night hoping that the hogs would root up the pathway from his house to the pad he keeps his personal helicopter parked!!!

If the land owners are like this guy then you dont have a chance buddy!

You can get an insurance policy on your dogs for a pretty reasonable price.  The reason for insuring them is if a cow or management deer gets injured by your dogs it will cover all damages up to a certain amount.  Now I know my dogs are not going to kill a cow or deer, but to some of the cattle ranchers that I have dealt with when the policy is mentioned they seem to ease up a bit.  I would also offer for them to accompany you on your first hunt so they can see how the dogs work.

Dont know if this will help you in your situation, but if property damage is what they are worried about you may want to look into it

Like Texas_Cur said, offer for them to go hunting with you. That shows you have nothing to hide.
