That's over in Jug's part of the state. Been around over there some, and it is a different world way out in there. Talked with an old man who was raised in a town out in the Basin that is no longer there. Their school house was a houseboat. Talked with him for about 2 hours. Had some really neat stories.

I'm born, raised , and live in the heart of the Atchafalaya Basin area. Jug, Hog Bit, myself and a few others on here also live here. I can't speak for the others, but if any of y'all are over this way and would like to see the Atchafalaya Basin / Lake Verrett area up close and personal, just give me a holler and we will see about making it happen.

They have a few commercial swamp tours scattered about but most take 20 or 30 people at a time in a tour boat on short trips, real touristy type stuff. You have to get with a local to take you out in the swamps and bayous to really enjoy it's beauty. Most Cajun folks will gladly take you out in a boat for a personal tour as we are proud of our heritage and love to share it with others.
I feel like we hijacked Reuben's thread.
