If your already catching hogs with them I would just keep putting them in the woods. Feed em hog tracks they'll figure it out

What kind of experience do the dogs have? How many hogs of what size have they seen?

You could probably do the drag rope with the 2X4 on the end and be ok.

Biggest concern of mine would be getting a pup that has little experience with hogs wrecked the first time out.

well if you just want to have some fun turn a hog loose , give it a good 30 minute head start and go re-catch it . and if you just want to have fun , leave them hogs in the pen and go and catch some diiferant ones  lol  . sounds like the young dogs are ready to hunt , not much training left to do . once my dogs have run with the big dogs i prefer to just hunt em from then on out .

here is what i would do with those dogs.   take this hog you have down in the creek bottoms or were ever you got. (leave the dogs at home)  drag him thru the brush a good ways then put him in a cage hide in the brush.  take those young dogs down and turn em out , startem toward the trail but stay behind them and let them find the trail to the hog. you can evaluate your dogs this way and see who wants to be up front.

now you still have a hog and you can do it again.  turn out one dog this time see what they can do.

i leave the dogs at home or some where they cant watch you hide the hog..

this is how i start my pups at about 4 or 5 months old.

the hog you have is gona run off and leave your pups most likley if you turn him loose.

once your pups hit the ground looking for a hog then take him to a fresh spot and turn him loose.

i will also tie a hog off in the brush and ride your dogs past him down wind see if they will wind from the atv

Drag the hog behind you dragging him over your steps and hide him then make a loop back to your truck or house or whatever to where you don't cross your drag trail

yea but im always up for some learning and new ideas... i started out by tieing a t-post to his leg and letting him run off .. he only made it 10 yards in the woods  Angry lol so i said eff it and jus cut it loose , waited about 30 min then went to my other pasture to get my dogs . came back and unloaded..my oldest and youngest dogs shot out the other two jus doing what an male cur dog would do (chit and piss) lol it took em about 10 min to find it but from where i let it out that sucker ran 700 yards and was in some THICK stuff .. in all it was a good lil deal. i was a happy dude
