Had a dog die today. Have no clue what happened. When I was feeding noticed her head hanging out of the dog house, ran over to her and she was stone cold dead!!! She got cut last Sunday before last on the inside of her back leg, nothing major just skin and muscle. Took her to the vet to get it sewn up. Shes been eating and acting fine. She was fine last night, jumping up and down wanting to go hunting and dead tonight. Any thoughts? Takin her to the vet in the moring for an autopsy.

any infection, even a tiny bit, could have come in, went into blood and to the heart. i've seen it happen sadly enough.

well she may have been hurt more than just the cut , most likely an internal injury that wasn't noticed ?

Could have been pseudorabies. If so there wasn't anything you could have done. Sorry for your loss.

Autopsy results showed a twisted stomach and spleen. Vet said its caused from eating then being active. I don't know how active she could've got in a 6X8 kennel but I guess it was enough.

i started to say it could have been bloat but you said she had been cut . twisting a gut is easy to to in a kennel when the dogs eat and then get all excited and are running back and forth hitting the kennel wall and bouncing off the walls while running back and forth the sudden stop of this action is great. my old man freind and hunting buddys dogs were so bad at it that they would break the welds on the 4x4 cow panels .
