My daughter has had a 103 fever for past 3 days. She got up to 105 last night, so we took her to the ER. Bronchitis is what they said is wrong... Antis and a follow up doc appointment tomorrow. I'm going to take off work tomrrow so the wife doesn't get fired from missing the past 3 days. Please say a prayer for her speedy recovery. Thanks everyone. But I will say this, if I can vent for a little bit... but why does the ER take so damn long to do anything....? I'm serious! We sat in the waiting room for an hour before they saw us for the check in and gave her something to try and help break her fever down a little, and then sent us back into the waiting room. We sat there for another 30 mins before we got back to the "room" (I say that very loosly considering the door was a sheet). Once we got back to the room we waited another 30-45 mins before anyone even stuck their head in to see what the prolem was. Sydni ended up having to get a chest X-Ray, and so then we had to wait on the results for that... which took another hour+... So at this point, my wife and I are at the ER at coming on 12A.M., had to skip dinner so I'm starving, and they have it like 50 degrees in there so while Syd with the fever is fine my wife and I were freezing. So they finially come back with the X-Ray results and tell us that they are going to give her some Anits. They didn't swab her mouth to see if she had the flu or strep either... I was just sure she had the flu with the symptoms she has. We sat there for another 30 mins just for them to get a tube of Antis. Then the woman came back and told us that we were almost done and that someone would bring papers by and her script. So we waited, and waited some more! At this point, I'm getting pretty upset and was about to loose my cool. There is no way in hell it takes 30-45 mins to fill out a couple pieces of paper and come tell the couple with a 3 year old that has a fever at 12:45A.M. that they can leave. I just don't get it! I mean, don't get me wrong, I am very appreciative of them finding out whats wrong... BUT!!!! That's just ridiculous! And to top all that off, everyone but like 2 chicks in that place was snobby and snappy and pretty much a prude! You'd think that if you were going to go into a position like an ER nurse or doctor that you would LOVE your job and want to be there to help people. Not bite peoples' heads off or just be plain rude! I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way, but either way it still doesn't make it right.

why does the ER take so damn long to do anything....? ERs have historically been long waits for those not requiring life threatening care. Having said that, it has gotten worse as ERs are now the refuge of health care for the poor and uninsured. It won't get better in the future. The best option I know of is the Critical Care facilities. They do not handle classic ER imminent life/death situations. They handle the flu, cuts, broken bones, etc. They are much quicker.

Yeah, RL, but they are also not cheap! They charge you and want payment before they see you in back, and this poor country dad doesn't have 120+ bucks to just throw out like that. After everything went down last night, we ended up figuring out that had we just given her the right dosage of Ibprofine she would have been able to go to the doctor the next day, saving me a ton of money. Oh well, now we know, and hopefully she is on the way to recovery.

I sure hate to hear it ryan, the ER's around here used to freggin suck........Luckily Baptist hospital here in beaumont opened one a cpl years back and now its a night and day difference from the wait we used to have. I remember sittin in Saint E. for 6+ hours to get 6 stiches in my knee when I was younger.........screw a lotta that.........duct tape has solved many of my problems since lol. and As far as them being rude to you.......thats apparently state wide practice because most of em in the ER's around here are rude as hell for no good reason........makes you want to grab em and slap em around a bit don't it??? I'll never understand how someone making at least 20$ an hour can be so angry for no damn reason...........Hope your little one gets better quick and keep your head up it'll get better!

Thanks guys! And yeah, you'd think going into a career like they're in that they'd enjoy what they do, but no... Everyone there except for the front desk nurses were rude as hell. Oh, and I just found out my wife has a fever now too. Grrrreat!!!! Time to take a crap ton of vitamin C now!

Just think if there were no illegal's in the E.R. How much faster LEGAL Americans could receive their emergancy healthcare. And it'd be cheaper because u wouldnt be paying for your healthcare and a portion of someone else who WON'T pay. Glad your lil baby girl is doing better. Sorry the staff was rude to u, up in the operating room, we are much more pleasant to our pts,, but can u imagine the burnout in th E.R.,, having to deal with huge #'s of pts every day, many of them with an entitlement mentality who spit in your face and fling monkey sh!t at you, onerous amounts of govt mandated , busy work paper work to fill out constantly, interspersed with true life threatening emergancy's.. And in all this chaos, the gloom of knowing if you make ONE mistake, you are opening yourself to a potential lawsuit,, i would NEVER work in an E.R. But i'll tell ya what, if i did, seeing a couple like ya'll would have been a breath of fresh air. But like i said, the E.R. Is a pressure cooker, and i didnt even mention constantly being under staffed to boot. Uh uh,, i would never work n E.R.
