Sorry to hear about your dog.
I almost lost my dog Ammo (CD) a few weeks ago to the same thing. Now I'm hunting at night and early in the mornings.

It's not always the easiest thing to set a cathader when your dog strokes out. If you cannot hit the vein you can always skin pop them in the same spot you give your dog it's rabies shot, under the skin top of the neck. The body will naturally work the H2O through itself. Lost a good CD to the heat stroke this year too... nothing nice. Even if you bring them back they're never the same.
