I've seen several " Craigslist Specials " pits that wouldnt catch no matter what situation you put them in.... Most of them were females... Seems like nowadays it's hard to find anything female on Craigslist that's worth giving a couple dollars for..

From my experience, & like others have posted here, sometimes the dog needs a good whoopin from a hog. That's what it's took for the pit I had that died & the one I have catchin now. The one I have that wont catch hasn't had one whoop up on him & I'm hopin that that's what's gonna work.

Try flirt poling the ones that won't catch, and activate their prey drive, and desire to catch and play tug of war. I have a 35lb Ruffian bred pit that I really didn't think had in her but first time she seen a hog she barked baout 3 times and then she caught it. Has caught ever since just haven't used her lately because I bred her to my most athletic, hard biten male.

I had to find & read this post after a phone call I got yesterday. Guy called me & told me had picked up a new catch dog yesterday, said he was year old or little older, and guy had been using him as lead in cd. He took him put him in pen with bay dog and hog around 80 lbs. He said the dog was ready to go when bay started, so he busted him loose & he joined in baying. I know he was very disappointed but I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

first time I showed my CD a pig he was about five months old he ran up and started barking at it so I let the pig hit him then he caught on the throat so I slapped him off then he nipped at the ear so the next day he seen the pig and got pissed so I let him go he hit ear and has been every since he's 11 months old now and about 40 pounds heavier and hitting like a train

I caught 2 boar hogs that were decent sized in a big panel trap, dispatched the larger of the 2 threw my male pit (he's like 40#) in there to see what he'd do, hog wasnt much over 100# probably, he ran to the rear and acted like he wanted to hump it, that sucker spun around and flipped him end over end, he got PO'ed once he hit the ground and caught ear and never let go the whole time gettin pummeled. I agree with the needing a hog to light that fire, my tame hog at the house he actually did hump, that was his first time seein a hog and it was very embarrassing but kinda funny. He hasnt humped a hog since!! Female was all catch from the get go. Just different dogs

I got mine from the pound for 24$ and later that night I brought her hunting along with a proven catch dog and when we had a bay going I cut her loose about 3 seconds behind the other bulldog and when we got there she was caught on the ear and she has been going to the bay and catching ear ever since.
