My dad has decided that he wants me to take him to the woods tomorrow and see if we can catch a pig or two. The problem is that my dad has never run dogs before and i am not so sure he could get me out of a bind. He is in good shape and everything it is not that he is not capable just does not have enough knowlege of the sport to be reliable. So the question is do i take him on a sure enough hunt and risk catching a decent pig and my old man not wanting to get in there and help pull dogs. Or take him for a walk in the woods. Would really like my dad to start hunting along with me but it would just be him and i tomorrow none of my usual hunting buddies what do i do.

Id say put him on a hog just be carefull and not in a rush. Take enough dogs u could handle by your self if needed.

I agree put him on a pig. He's ur old man. U can bet if he is able when it comes to the short hairs he will do what he needs to do to ensure u don't get hurt. Plenty of dogs and a seriouse walk thru of what the catch usually entails. Also make sure he understands to do what u say when u say while not getting in an uncontrolled hurry.

TAKE HIM!!!!! kinda puzzled at the question. Ive always mostly hunted by myself on foot in the mtns, catch and tie. Would have loved to have an extra hand a few times. Even if its just holding a dog or something. Your OLD man might just surprise you. ;-)

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

I agree, hell when I bring new people I try like hell to put em on a big hog, its just hog huntin and at one point in time every single one of us was in your dads position going for the first time, 90% of the people I have brought jump right in and follow directions at the bay.......... I'd be happy as a hog on slop if my dad wanted to go with me!

My mom is a Cancer, stroke, spinal meningitis survivor and is legally handicapped and lil ol bitty and she comes with me every now and then as does my 3 year old daughter and even my pregnant wife. We hunt out of the truck though. If it gets hairy, they just stay in truck. Take the ol fart.

The first hog I was on was a 250 boar and he was rough and I was green.. When the action started I didn't hesitate to get in there and grab it.. Give him a chance hope y'all have a blast!
