I occasionaly do so called "rescue" from time to time on dogs, I usually only deal with working breeds, such as bulldogs, and cur type breeds. These dogs will have a great temperment and able to work.
Here is the "catch", these dogs will be cheap or Free, to certain approved responsible homes, but you must have references, a place to keep the dog (proper facitlities), the abilty/finances to provide for the dog, and maintain good health of the dog including vaccines and regular monthly Heartworming and anything else the dog may need.
Most are free, but some dogs do have expenses and that is all that will be required as a fee to cover what expenses the dog has built up.
I don't mind helping young folks find dogs that they will hunt, but if you live with your parents your parents will have to come with you to meet and pick up the dog, witht he understanding what they are getting.
