I have one big pen that I built for my dogs and have two gyps and a fixed male in it. Well I'm getting rid of one of the gyps and should be getting a male in her place. What can I do to stop her from getting bred?! I don't think I can separate the pen because one would have a house to go into. I wonder if just taking the gyp out when she's in heat would work? Or is that too risky?

I know a guy that kept most of his dogs on chains but he had "Hot" pens. Just small 4x8 pens...totally enclosed.
He would put gyps in them when they came in. Only need to keep them closed up for a couple weeks. Can let them out to run (put them on a chain) when you clean the pen.

Only if you want puppies. They come into heat when you are working hard and coming home tired. When you notice she is in heat it is already too late. The male knew she was coming into heat way before you did and you got puppies on the way. Build another dog house. I built one on a pallet. Cut a 8x4 piece of plywood in half for the floor and roof. Then made some walls out of plywood. Put it so it slopes to the front and drill a couple drain holes in the floor. It was cheap and big enough for big dogs. I can even crawl into it. I thought about using a whole piece of plywood for the top and bottom on two pallets. Reckon even put a TV in it. So when I get in trouble I can just go hang out with my dogs

Well if he proves to be a good dog I may want pups from him. Would hate to get him fixed, I wish my other dog wasn't
