For the most part almost everyone here feeds victor, sports mix, and a few others and all of them are between 24% and 27% protein and between 17%and 20% fat. As far as I can tell only difference your gonna get feeding basic or maintenance feed to the dogs I have is a higher feed bill because they are gonna have to eat more to maintain their weight

I don't know about the protein content but years ago they said that excessive protein would damage the liver or kidneys...I never have had any problems feeding hi protein dog food to my dogs...
dogs that over heat can be the type of dogs that hunt way too hard and won't quit...some over heat because of the long hair, others over heat because of lack of conditioning and those that are too fat...never heard of high protein being a problem but I would like to know for sure...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

Basically the body is a furnace the more protein you put in the more fuel you add to the furnace. Now protein is necessary for muscle development but too much can be bad especially in hot weather. Also it can raise kidney and liver enzymes. Your dogs energy is greatly effected by fat content. P.S. you have to look at digestible nutrients. All the nutrients in the world are useless if the body can't digest them.

24% isn't high protein. You should be fine. Feeding something like diamond extreme athlete (orange bag), which I believe is 32%, during heat of summer could be an issue but could just be a wives tale. I've had 1 dog overheat..it only hit about 80 degrees that day, it was a pup who wasn't conditioned and just flew everywhere that morning.

X2....if your dog's stool is soft and there's a lot of it at each bowel movement....you're wasting dog food because they aren't digesting it. Stool should be dark, firm enough to roll around and not much of it from what I know. Just my opinion of course.
