I see alot of post.about dogs and behavior issues & im.just wondering. if.you.have great handle on a dog and it has one majlr.mistake.or one lapse.. is culling your first option? For example I have 3 male bulldogs. and I have a legit handle.on.all three. sometimes if.im.cleaning.pens.I let.them run the yard. now seeing as how boys will be boys I have had a few scraps and measuring contest.. I see ALOT of ppl who first reaction.on.this site is "cull cull.cull" but stern voice and left hook hasnt failed me yet.. I guess what im.trying to say is ... At what point can you.be.too.trigger happy(no pun intended)

My draw the line is "3 strikes n ur out". Foot to head has worked good, but doin that with curs will ruin thrm fast n takes a long time, if at all to gain their trust back. So if i hav to disapline by voice n foot more than 3x, its time to go c the reaper. I WONT hav it in my yard n dang sure not while hunting.

I have no issue with yard scraps because they are usually the owners fault . I have had my share out of the best dogs I've ever owned , BUT if it ever transfers out into the field it is time to do some evaluating of the dog that started it . regardless of how much you work and handle your dogs , they are PACK ANIMALS and there has to be a pecking order established every one of them eventually desires to be the alpha dog on the yard and it is up to the handler to keep the peace and balance in the yard by doing everything they can to avoid confrontations . there are all ways signs and warnings given from the dogs before it actually happens . just be alert .

The difference between real dog men and the pretenders is those real doggers are studying those dogs all the time and reading the behaviors and know what will come next when a dog starts acting a certain way. That's why those TV trainers look like they are doin magic with those dogs. Well that and editing. But understanding the signs a dog exhibits allows you to head off a lotta stuff before it gets going and makes you the leader and not one of your dogs.

I was fixin to say something similar. I let my dogs out of their kennels right before feed time pretty much every day for about twenty minutes while i am feeding and checkin things. I have four males including my american bull dog. I can pick out who is trying to stir the pot and call his name and biotch at him a lil then everything goes back to playing. To me how a dog acts when you are correcting tells me if the dog needs culled for aggression. Some dogs wont take my kind of correction and they dont eat my dog food long now. I just had an aggression issue a month ago that got worse and worse as the dog got older. No amount of pow wow's would break this dog, he doesnt eat my food any longer.

good to hear some opinions. and.input.. im.young and dont.feel.as if.I could ever consider myself a dogman. plus dealing with bulldogs now and 20 years ago cant be compared in.my opinion. I believe.in culling 100% man biters.. dog aggression.. all things I wont tolerate. but I.like to say a yard scrap and a aggresive dog is something I trust my own judgement on... and if I.feel that a dog had a ...moment... for lack of better words. i wont cull em.

Good points. Always helps to know how to read your dog.

there are dogs that need to be culled and for sure never be bred because of said trait...some dogs can be beaten harshly but they still want to show they are top dog...that is one trait I don't have much patience for...

If I ever get sick of bustin ur hand up get urself a nice "switch". Once they feel that cross the back they won't want it again. When u have it in ur hand u will c have a definite change in behavior. Lion tamer always has his whip

To be honest... I have a decent handle on my dogs... but I met an old guy who made me question if I shuld just becone a cat person. he had HANDLE on ALL of his dogs. and im saying that to say... I can now recognize that alot of dog aggressive or hardhesdness can be blamed on the owner. myself included. soo instead of me goin to the cull solution all the time. I try to educate myself. apply that to the dog. then if that doesnt work .22 flu is contagious
