I have been huntin hogs for about 5 years now but over the past year I have started gettin dogs. I was wondering if someone out there could  give me a helpful detailed list of the shots, wormings, and etc. that you administer to your dogs year round and how often. Even advice on pups would be much appreciated.

Its best to have a consulting vet to help you to make desisions on treating your dogs.

Different vaccines are needed in different parts of the country.  Checking with your vet would be your best bet.

Hello,

There is some very good advice in this section alone (flea control, shots, worming, basic fist aid, some not so basic first aid). The advise that has been offered is very sound, one of the guy's dad is a vet and his advise is always right on, IMO. I was raised on a ranch so I have done plenty of doctoring in my time. My dads best friend is a vet who I have learned a lot from over the years. The in town vet, small animal vet is my buddy also. With this being said the 2 vets have different opinions on a pups worming schedule. Remember if you choose to give your own 8/1 or 7/1 shots, get the shots from a local store that knows that the shots have to stay cold or they are useless. Rabies shots can not be purchased in Texas except by vets. The rabies shots are for my dogs protection first, period. The shots are the cheapest part of dog care and it will give you an excuse to meet the local vet. Good Luck....

I give my pups four puppy shots or the vet does I stoped giving my on when gave them and pup still died of parvo.  anyways I give one at 6 weeks 9 weeks 12 and then give another at 15 weeks.  Most people stop at 12 but I figgure it is cheap insurance.  The ones after that i give myself.  I worm them once a month useing zymetricin gold about a mm size.  I put apple cider vinigar in their water.  Trying to figgure what else.  In summer i feed meat about once every 5 days then in the winter i feed meat about every 3rd day.  Also starting about now I give them muscle up to start building them up for more hunting in the winter but stop when it gets warm because have heard it will make them over heat easier. Oh yea also give the rabies vac. or the vet does.  Think that is about it.  For worming puppies look under zimetricn gold (spelling stinks I know) post from a couple of days ago it has good advice

At 4 weeks old I give vacc. for:

Distemper
Canine Hepatitis
Leptospirosis
Parainfluenza
Parvovirus
Hepatitus
Pyrantel
Caronavirus

Repeat this at 8 weeks and then at 12 weeks.

At 12 weeks give rabies vacc as well.

First of the month I give:

Ivermectric
SafeGuard paste

Every other month I give Comfrontis for fleas.

100% RAW meaty bone diet:  Chicken backs and/or necks M-S and whole talapia or whiting on Sunday.  Beef liver, chicken liver, and eggs a couple times per month.
