How long do yall give for a trial. I told the man that wants my gyp he can come hunt with me as many times as he wants but when he leaves with her she is his(I have heard to many horror stories and even seen one) is that wrong or should you give a trial he told me he wanted her but I told him he had to hunt at least 1 time with her. So should I give a trial or just make him hunt with me untill he says he likes her. also told him we would hunt his place, mine or what ever and wouldnt sell her from out under him untill he said he wanted her or didnt give me some input on how yall do it

Hunting with the dog sounds like a lot better deal then a trial anyway. The guy will get to see her work at her best with the dogs she is used to. Wink

just dont want to here she done this or that I want him to be able to see her like she is heck only hunted her 1 time in last 3 or 4 months just to many dogs and she is starting to get a little older so she is at prime and Im about to back out if he dont want her I think I have decided that since I raised her out of a full blood Parker gyp. I will just keep them. Man it is hard to sell a dog you know so well

it's not wrong. the dog belongs to you, so you make the rules.  like elliscounty said, if he hunts with you he'll get to see her in her own element.  it might take her several weeks to start hunting for a new handler with a new pack.

What I dont get is someone sells a dog for $500 with a trial and for $350 without a trial.

I have been bit a few times by a few good old boys.  They don't take anything off my place (horse, dog, cow, rifle) without a written agreement. If they purchase the dog I give them 3 working day to have a vet check. You can use a hand written piece of notebook paper or even a brown paper sack if you can't find anything else. Tells them when I want the dog back, if the dog is killed while in his possession he is responsible for full payment. If the dog is injured what vet to use and they are responsible for the cost of all veterinary care. I am even getting Leary of taking checks anymore. I try to see there drivers license for there information. Seems like a lot of work for a few hundred dollar dog, might just save you some money in the long run

Let him come  hunt with you if he cant see what he needs to see  hunting with her with her regular group of dogs then he sure is not gonna see it hunting with his group of dogs.  To many BS'ers out there dont take the chance.  I dont let anyone take my dogs for ten mins much less a day are no way for  a week are two and all you get is a peice of paper with writeing on it thats gonna cost you to get a lawyer to solve that that paper is worthless and   if that dont happen you  then get your dogs  back messed up dogs are get killed and you never seen your money  and you get  the the short end of a big stick were it hurts and he walks off scott free !

Tell him no deals, no gaurntees, no checks, no money orders and you dont take credit cards Money "CASH" up front and when he hunts with her and he decides he wants her and hands you the money tell him when he drives out that gate the dog is his period!   No Refunds !

Good Business is Good Business straight up front and no BS!

I think your initial terms where very fair and a good oppurtunity to see truth in how you stand behind what your dog can do. Stick to your first stipulations bud!!!!

i think thats very fair also, i wouldnt buy a high dollar dog until i seen what they will do but why would i need to take it for trial if i can go hunt right there with it and not have to worry about damn if somethin happens im relaible, and its even good u offered to hunt on his place... very fair if you are gonna sell her keep that as yur stipulations!

sounds fair to me, I've heard of situations where people have let buyer take dog on trail get the dog all wacked up and then brought it back saying it did'nt work.

i wont give a trial any more, you buy as is after a max of 3 hunts, but i dont care if i sell a dog i am not in the dog selling business

if i cant tell in 3 hunts with a dog if he/she is something i want then its something i shouldnt have

i would never ask a person to do anything different with the dog than they usally do on any reg hunt, i want to see the dog work under the conditions it was trained and raised under not out of its  normal, why would you ask or expect someone to work a dog alone that for 3 years has never worked alone unless you wanted a loner type dog, in that case you should have already asked that question and not be waisting your time or the owners time looking at a dog that you know wont fit your program

most deals gone bad are because someone doesnt know what to ask from the first phone call, when someone calls me about a dog if they arent asking the right questions i tell them "this is what you need to ask and know about the dog"

hunting style is the biggest problem next to the country you hunt, a great dog in the hill country may be worthless in the pines or a great road type dog may be worthless walking

like others have said buying a dog is like buying a used truck, they can sell and sell and sling BS but you dont know till you get it home put a load behind it

remeber  there are no stupid questions and you can never ask to many questions before buying a dog or for that matter on the first phone call checking into a dog

I think it is up to the owner of the dog to set the rules. I agree that most people do not know what to ask or they just dont know what they want. either way you should get every tranaction written down and signed before the sale is complete.

will agree , I have had people call me and really dont have a clue. I think before people even think about buying they should have some questions wrote down to ask.
