I like a real leggy well built dog that quick on its feet. I have a yellow female that is just that. Shes a carnathan bred bmc. She is turning on real good and she's very high strung and can run like crazy. I was recently given a weimeriner. He is also extremely fast and is taller than her with longer legs. I doubt theres a hog in the woods that could stretch out and out run either one of these dogs. I did my research on these weimeraner dogs and they were originally bred to be "big game" dogs...hogs deer etc. But have evolved into more of a pet or bird dog. Thats what I read anyway. My question is if this female continues to show me good things and finishes on out to where I want her to be and I can get this year old weimeraner to "make the cut" would yall cross these 2 dogs ? I have thought about it a good bit and they should make some very "leggy" well built good looking dogs with some brain to them as well. This weimeraner is smart as a whip and knows about every trick in the book. What do yall think. ? I would post pics of them but when I try they are "to large ". Im not to computer savvy and I use my phone to access the internet ...thanks.. shane.

I love a good looking Weimeraner...and I do believe that the part of Europe they came from...that they bred a very high percentage of good dogs for whatever they needed...Like other dogs from that country they were tested and culled hard and only a few were allowed to breed after they passed all the testing...and I do believe that the Weimeraner was bred to point and retrieve, catch rabbits, deer and hog....producing a dog that can be trained to hunt any type of game...
unfortunately here in the good ole USA were have people who only breed for show and many who don't show or hunt and of those most only care for the money and not the dogs...
there have been some clubs created here in America that test their working dogs and a Weimeraner from a working line is usually very expensive but the best way to go as far as breeding to that yellow gyp...
If it were me I would not hesitate breeding a good Weimeraner to a good yellow cur...but I would stay away from those extra large Weimeraner out there...they lose speed and agility (my opinion)...

I had a bmc/weimaraner cross about 7 or 8 years ago. He had all the hunt you could ask for, but was rough as a cobb... catch anything. Reuben would you mind tellin me why they would loose there speed and agility? Is it a weight issue ? Im not doubting that fact . Just curious to the reasoning. Hes pretty tall but a slim dog. And hes pretty much all leg. I will try to figure out how to post pictures from my cell phone and show yall the "potential cross". And mike thats a good looking dog. Hate that he got run over. I hate to lose a dog that I have high hopes for. I went 4 and a half hours south of where I live once and picked up a pup out of some proven dogs and she got killed before she ever had a chance . Thats the way it goes I reckon.

 heres the yella dog. The pictures dont do her justice. Shes built real well...Long straight legs. She only goes full speed ...nose to the ground. She has impressed me so far. |

quite a few of the old time folks that depended on a dog that could work all day and have some size to them would say 50 pound dog is the best...I like about a 58-60 pound dog for all around hog dog...but I haven't weighed my dogs so I could be wrong in that weight as well...but no more than 24" at shoulder for me... both your dogs look to be well built and your male is at the top end on what I prefer for me...I like the looks of him and he should mature very well since he is built right just hasn't filled out yet due to his age... you should get what you need by the looks of them... |

Makes since....thanks for the comments on the dog's. Im gonna think about it pretty hard and see how they do in the woods. Maybe they will turn out if I decide to breed them.
