Catchin hogs on the reg

View Profile
« on: September 20, 2009, 05:22:43 pm »

We cut the curs loose right before sunrise in some river bottom.  The dogs got in hogs right off and stayed on them for about two hours without anything to show for the effort.  Each dog must have stuck a hog at least twice this morning but they couldn't keep up with it in the switch cane.

On the way back to the trucks reggie, tank, and peachez opened up ahead of us.  They never moved and the catch dogs sealed the deal.  They had struck a sow, that was officially ground checked by Thomas Rohan at 217.3lbs.  Cheesy She was bedded down and didn't get 5 feet from her bed.

Skinners,
Thanks for putting up the pictures of the dogs, since they did the work, makes a nice addition to the story.
McLoven is looking good and his sister, Patches is turning out to be a good one also.

That was a fun hunt.  Not a dull moment from the minute we turned them loose.  That darn switch cane ate their lunch though.

I think that sow may have made one big bull rush out of her bed right as the catch dogs got there and really whacked reggie good.  I immediately noticed he was acting wierd after the catch and think he was a standing 8 count for a good 5 minutes.  Good thing he is so hard headed. LOL

I was a great hunt. I really enjoyed it. They sow was definately a fighter. Once I get the video uploaded you can hear her. She did not squeel until she got stuck with the knife. We didnt catch the big boar we were going after but we caught the big sow.   Grin  I was very proud of all the dogs and Jag too, lookin at the video after the hunt, he held on strong while being cut off by a limb. He was on one side and the sow was on the other bending him completely in half around this limb. Sam was stuck like a tick on the other ear as well. She stood no chance.
