Since the Veterinarian shutdown for all DIY meds. About the only thing over the counter these days are a few decent antibiotics and topical sprays or creams.

For flea, tick and worm.......its back to the stone age or please pay for fluffy and their 18 additional buddies...IE the hunting pack!....to come in and pay for an office visit to determine if my dog has fleas or worms.  Smh

Since I have always handled everything medically in canine, bovine, and fowl since a child.....complete ripoff and classic monopoly of organized institutions denying individuals the tools needed to bypass the mandatory vet craze that has been pushed upon the public the last few years.

So what is your bypass?      Lemme here from the DIY old hands that refuse to lay down and take the whole pack in for treats and exams to determine the obvious?

Mine.......Check out Hoofandhound.com! They have the good stuff minus the ridiculous exam expense.

Also buy a VET Book!  Worth every penny for years of DIY animal care.

Keep some Penicillinin the fridge year-round.

Let's hear everyone's else's 2020 medical hacks!!!!

Conserve SC for fleas... it’s basically liquid Comforts.

Kraft Drug for antibiotics... I keep doxycycline and cephalexin on hand at all times.

LA200 for any infections from cuts.

Race Horse Meds out of Canada for dex and ace.

Fleas - Conserve SC, it’s worth it’s weight in gold if you ever have an outbreak

Worms - cattle paste wormer, I use ivermectin for heart worms and alternate between strongid and safe guard for other worms

Antibiotics - I keep penicillin in the fridge but never use it. I use amoxicillin primarily, I have it as fish antibiotics. I also have a ton of Doxycycline from my tour overseas.

Cuts - I use Vetericyn spray from tractor supply, it’s pricey but works very good. I also will run a hose on the cut for 5-10 minutes a day.

What vet books do y’all recommend for a basic level of knowledge? Aka good information but worded to where it’s not gonna go over my head. I am a good reader and fairly smart with that type of stuff but haven’t been in medical school to understand some stuff I’ve seen lol.

Almost everything I need is at TSC minus praziquantel and amoxicillin 250 mg...usually buy generic...
CutHeal is what I use the most for cuts...

I buy 10 in one vaccines from a feed store that takes great care in storing vaccines properly...I don’t do yearly boosters and vaccinate pups  only twice...no puppy shots

I don’t use flea or tick meds...I treat the yard/kennels/dog houses during mosquito season and at that time it kills fleas/ticks/fire ants for many months and repels mosquitoes for at least 3 to 4 weeks which is about the duration of each mosquito cycle...sometimes I treat once a year and sometimes twice a year depending on cycles...I use a 50/50 mixture of  Biden XTS and yard guard...takes about 5 minutes...this includes spraying the back of the house...

Couple new meds listed I haven't tried yet!   Am always down to find the next best med.

As far as a good book.....try "Dog owners home veterinary handbook" newest edition by James Griffin.

Joker has got me out of some head scratches through the years.

I did research and found out about the fish mox capsules last year and made a order

I ordered the following just to have on hand Incase I needed it,

250mg amoxicillin
250mg cephalexin
150 Mg clindamycin

I keep a bottle of penicillin on hand

As far as wound care depends on what it is. I used the old blue coat stuff for small stuff and if it’s a open wound that staples or suitures  won’t hold I use pickling lime twice a day and wash it out with water once a day.

I use the liquid goat wormer and ivermectin

As far as flea treatment goes a local fox hunter sales this stuff that works but I can’t think of the name
Of it.  I will try and find it in a bit..

Admire pro for the fleas.    A couple dots of it behind the ears and by tail and they will be gone. It is expensive for a jug, but this guy sales a 10 oz bottle and i bought it last year and still have more than 3/4 of a bottle treating 15 head or so.

We drench our dogs In summer months with cydectin. Ticks are hell down here along the coast. Other than that luckily all I have to do is call my vet and tell him what I need and he will sell me it without ever seeing the dog.
I keep all the normal stuff on hand. Dex(regular and SP), lidocaine, vitamin K1(antidote for warfarin toxicity, also helps with dogs who have lost lots of blood) anti biotic wise I like just regular old Fish-Pen pills unless you gotta get a little aggressive and go to a clavamox or something like baytril.
Wound care I like Blu kote or Alu-shield, along with vetricyn and hydro therapy once a day if something I leave open.

Phil from bulldog supply passed away about a year back. He had a couple of my Patterdale’s through another set of hands and contacted me about them. We spoke a number of times as he would call me and pick my brain. He was a working dog man with intentions of hunting them before falling ill.

Antibiotics can be found here and I ordered a stock pile from https://www.countrysidepet.com/collections/antibiotics

A google search and you can get the merk vet manual for free on your computer.

Hope this helps a couple guys

I use casteroil and alum (pickling spice) mixed into a paste for cuts that they won't leave alone. Oil helps it stick and anybody on here old enough knows how good it tastes, the alum draws. Casteroil is in most pharmacies and alum is in the spice section of the grocery store. It works very well.

I have not tried Eppinette myself but a friend of mine likes them, he said they are usually pretty good but sometimes they can take a little longer but he told me this all over a year ago. I know they kind of started up right when Stillwater was having issues, so they picked up a lot of their business. A different good friend of mine did buy a bulldog pup from Mr. Eppinette back around the late 90's/early 2000's. He had some great bulldogs back then.
