I normally let the hogs I catch go after catching them, but I do like to keep a few to make some sausage out of them for special get togethers for my friends! Lots of of my friends do not hunt, but they sure will eat some wild game meat when I have these get togethers!! Well I am having a get together for New Years and this is the sow that we made the sausage out of!!!! Shot a 6pt about a week ago and this sow with alittle beaf fat, the deer and seasoning, alot of work and the sausages are set!! Add some grouper, lobster, shrimp, corn bread, and a huge greek salad, with plenty of adult beverages, and we will be ready to greet the New Year!!
Back to the hunt for the sow! Went on a friends property with Gator , Blaze, and Clyde. The property is not as wet as the one I normally hunt!! Nice change for sure!! Cut the dogs loose early in the morning and were trying to get to some oak flats that are behind some palmetto flats. Acorns are still falling and figured some hogs would be in the area.
Dogs get down into the palmettoes around the oak flats and after about 25min I hear a few chops and then nothing. Figured the hog broke in the palmettoes, but I was pretty confident the dogs would get the hog because the palmettoe flat was not that big! Decided to cut Clyde loose to the dogs and by the time we were in the oak hammock it was a caught hog! Nice fat sow! Poor Blaze is having a hard time with the caught hog command!! Like a bulldog when a hog is in front of him!! He hears nothing!! I am sure he will learn just like Gator did with age!! I love the intensity!!
My buddy with the sow!!
