How much does it matter if a catch dog is missing a k-9? Does it affect them catching and staying caught?

When u are pulling on a tough piece of jerky do u put it under ur k9's or in ur molars. K9 teeth are designed to rip not pull.

Doesn't matter at all in my experience. Assuming the dog is a balls to the wall holder by nature. A soft dog that's reluctant to hold at the best of times will probably be negatively affected, but yeah physically I don't think it makes a difference. Just psychologically could potentially rock the confidence of a dog that was already psychologically not confident, I assume.

I asked this question a few weeks ago. My bulldog had a canine tooth busted out while holding a big boar hog 250 plus pounds. The next hog i put him on was another good one. There was no bay because we had the dog with us and spotted the hog in a pasture . I got him to spot it and cut him loose. Long story short he chased it around for a while. Then i heard the squealing of a "cought hog". By the time i got there he had lost it. It only took me about 30 seconds to get there. I dont really know what happend he always holds good.. the were cought in a big Colbert pipe that runs under the road so all i can figure is he got banged around and raked loose on the side of the pipe. I have cought pigs with him since then though with no problem. He is missing a k-9 on the top.

My pit is missing two and the other two are broken off and he has caught several 200+ lb pigs solo. I don't think it makes a difference.

i would say it has to be taken on a case by case basis.   there is a reason some refer to the canines as hangers. and i also think that most hog doggers never take a dog to the vet after breakin canines to make sure there is no exposed nerves , jaw damage etc.
