Its been a while since I checked in, so this may have been discussed. Today they confirmed that 10 dogs died after catching a hog in Sevier County Arkansas. Test conducted in Iowa confirmed it was pseudorabies. That is De Queen, close to the Texas border for those who don't know. Thought I would put that out there. The South West Arkansas area has been getting hit pretty hard. Hope y'all stay lucky. The entire article can be viewed at ArkansasMatters. Com. Finally, deer season over. Time to hit it hard.

It will not prevent. All the vets I've spoke with about it says it helps, but will not prevent pseudo rabies. |

1 year ago in trinity tx my vet had to put 6 dogs down from it. She said all it takes is a dog to bite an infected dog one time and its dead. No cure, no preventative. Pseudorabies is not rabies, just sounds like it would be. Its a type of herpesvirus.

Every time this topic comes up everyone goes crazy.
I went straight to the Dr. (Region 6) at the TAHC (only agency that regulates feral swine in Texas) with my questions/concerns. I suggest yall do the same...don't rely on rumor.
Pseudo is not just in certain areas/pockets of the feral swine population in Texas. It's EVERYWHERE....
1 in 3 (33%) of ALL feral swine tested in Texas are positive for at least one strain of the virus. Yes...it's awful when a dog or yard contracts it....but If it was as bas as some people make it out to be....there wouldn't be a hog dog left alive.
